Schalke starlet turned down Bayern Munich

Amine Harit has confirmed he turned down the chance to join Bayern Munich in favour of Schalke over the summer.

The 20-year-old joined Schalke from Nantes in a €8m (£7m) deal over the summer after flourishing for the French side during his breakthrough campaign last term.

Harit, who is now a full Morocco international, is regarded as a bright prospect and has now revealed he turned down Bayern for Schalke in order to get regular playing time.

“It is true that Bayern wanted me. If such a big club calls, then of course you’re thinking hard about it,” he told SportBild, via Get German Football. “But then you have to ask yourself, what is best for my development? I came to the conclusion that Schalke and this project fits me better. I saw the opportunity to feature in the first team here.

“The Bundesliga is in my view the best league in the world for young players because it is very demanding technically, physically and tactically – the stadiums are always full too."

Harit is the only Schalke player that has started in all nine Bundesliga games this season, suggesting his bold decision has worked in his favour.

The versatile attacker has been fouled more times than any other Bundesliga player this season (32).
