Leeds eye ambitious January move for Tottenham outcast

Leeds United want to bolster their promotion push in January by signing Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente, claims The Sun.

Llorente snubbed a reunion with Antonio Conte at Chelsea in the summer of 2017 to join Tottenham but has endured a nightmare spell at the club.

The former Spain international has failed to get any regular playing time as Harry Kane’s deputy and has no future under Mauricio Pochettino.

Llorente’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of the current campaign and Tottenham are almost certainly not going to extend his stay in north London.

It is also likely that Llorente will receive offers to leave Tottenham in January and Championship giants Leeds are keen on the 33-year-old.

Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa believes he can tempt Llorente down to England’s second-tier after managing the striker at Athletic Club before his move to Juventus in 2015.

Leeds are currently third in the Championship and three points adrift of league leaders Norwich and the arrival of Llorente would certainly boost their changes of automatic promotion.

Llorente has only started one Premier League game since joining Tottenham and has only managed one start in any competition this season, scoring in a 3-1 League Cup win over West Ham last month.
