With the international break upon us, now is as good a time as any to look at the top performing teams of the month for September. After our Premier League team of the month was revealed, it’s now time to cast our eyes across to the Serie A best XI for September, with Napoli dominating the side.
The Partenopei have four representatives in the team as they impressed once again to maintain their 100% start to the 2017/18 season, the only team in Italy’s top tier to do so. Lorenzo Insigne was their top performing player with a WhoScored rating of 8.3 with two goals and two assists to his name. Jose Callejon features on the opposite flank ahead of full-back teammates Faouzi Ghoulam and Elseid Hysaj.

Defending champions Juventus are represented by Miralem Pjanic and Paulo Dybala. Pjanic to Dybala is the best assist-to-goalscorer record in Serie A this season, returning three goals, and their partnership has been key to Juventus’ unbeaten start to the season. Dybala alone scored six league goals in September, with their inclusion deserved.
Argentine Dybala is partnered in attack by Serie A player of the month Edin Dzeko, with the Roma star scoring five goals and registering one assist to earn a WhoScored rating of 9.4. Crossing the Rome divide, former Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto stars after the Spaniard netted three goals and registered one assist last month.
Davide Astori partners Milan Skriniar at the heart of the defence. The latter has been a solid performer for Inter following his summer arrival from Sampdoria, with his strong showings yielding one goal in September. Astori, like Skriniar, both impressed in Serie A last month, with the duo each earning a WhoScored rating of 7.5.
Alessio Cragno rounds off the XI having kept two clean sheets in four Cagliari appearances. While his side lost two of four matches, Cragno was again a solid performer between the sticks to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.1.
