Premier League round-up: Sunday's star men revealed

There may have only been half the number of Premier League games on Sunday but the day’s action saw just one goal fewer (16) than the six matches on Saturday (17) with three excellent encounters. There were a number of standout displays too, as we assess the man of the match performers from Turf Moor, The Eithad and The Amex Stadium.

Burnley 1-3 Watford: Troy Deeney - 8.64

It’s fair to say many will have been expecting a low scoring affair at Turf Moor but any such assumption was shattered inside three minutes. That’s all it took for the visitors to find the net, with Troy Deeney setting up strike partner and former Burnley man Andre Gray, while it took just three minutes more for the hosts to equalise. Deeney restored Watford’s lead three minutes after half time with one of four shots, won four aerial duels and completed two dribbles to lead by example for Javi Gracia’s fast starters.

Manchester City 6-1 Huddersfield: Sergio Aguero - 10

In a typically sensation home display from the champions, on another day any number of players could have picked up the man of the match award but Sergio Aguero’s 13th hat-trick for the club ensured he earned a perfect rating from WhoScored.com. He had a helping hand from visiting keeper Ben Hamer on two occasions but was still clinical with his finishing, firing off nine shots in total, hitting the target with four and the woodwork with one.

Brighton 3-2 Manchester United: Pascal Gross - 7.64

If the two early kick-offs delivered on goals then Manchester United’s trip to Brighton certainly didn’t disappoint either, unless you are in the Red Devils corner, of course. It was a superb team performance from the Seagulls, though playmaker Gross just won out in the ratings, converting the all important penalty to give Brighton breathing space before the break, producing two tackles and winning four fouls to alleviate pressure on his side.
