Premier League round-up: Sunday’s Man of the Match awards revealed

Wolves 1-0 Burnley - Raul Jimenez - 7.96 rating

It would have been sickening for Wolves manager Nuno if his side didn’t come away with all three points against a poor Burnley side, who equalled their club-record run of four successive Premier League defeats on Sunday. Wolves dominated the ball with 59% possession and had 30 shots on goal compared to Burnley’s seven. Nuno has demanded his side be more clinical in front of goal and they were guilty of spurning chance after chance against the Clarets, particularly in the second half.

In the end, Raul Jimenez’s second half strike was enough to secure all three points for the newly-promoted side. The 27-year-old ironically tucked away arguably one of Wolves’ more difficult chances, brilliantly steering Matt Doherty’s low cut-back beyond Joe Hart and in off the far post. The Mexico international hit the target with three of his six shots and then turned provider for Doherty, who should have scored with the goal at his mercy.

Jimenez held up the ball well against Burnley’s strong defenders, winning four aerial duels and also winning one free-kick. He chipped in with one tackle and two clearances to help defend from the front before being handed a well-deserved rest with 15 minutes of normal time remaining. His replacement, Leo Bonatini, endured a nightmare cameo, failing to hit the target with four good chances.

Everton 1-3 West Ham - Marko Arnautovic - 8.14 rating

West Ham ended their four-game losing streak in emphatic fashion, recording a surprise 3-1 win away to Everton in Sunday’s final Premier League fixture. Manuel Pellegrini made a few surprises with his selections, notably handing Pedro Obiang and summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko their first league starts of the campaign - the latter scored twice.

However, West Ham’s best player, Marko Arnautovic, finished the match as the highest WhoScored rated player (8.14) but his afternoon ended with just under 30 minutes remaining due to a suspected knee injury. The Austria international will undergo further tests on Monday and the Hammers will hope the 29-year-old does not face a long period on the sidelines.

Prior to his departure, Arnautovic was sensational for the Hammers, unselfishing teeing up Yarmolenko for the opener before getting in on the act himself minutes going off. The West Ham No.7 won three aerial duels and drew one foul up front all on his own.
