Match winner Pogba returns to Premier League player form rankings

We are back with our up-to-date Premier League player form rankings following the midweek action that saw top of the table change hand three times and Liverpool drop six points off first.

It wasn't a full gameweek so some players in the top-10 have simply moved around based on the performances of those that did. Before we dive into the standings, first a rundown of how it all works.

As always, our power rankings are based on a six-game period, weighted chronologically with the most recent outing carrying greater significance and so on.

Each player must have played in two of the last three and six of the last eight available Premier League matches for their side. Moreover, only league ratings are considered.

10) Tanguy Ndombele (Tottenham) - 7.62 form rating

Tottenham weren't involved in midweek so Tanguy Ndombele has dropped a couple of places as a result of those that turned in blinders. Ndombele has finally buried the hatchet with Jose Mourinho and is starting to play some superb football for Tottenham. The 24-year-old has scored twice in his last four appearances, including a goal of the season contender last time out. Not just excelling going forward with 2.3 successful dribbles per game across his last six appearances, Ndombele has notably averaged as many tackles per game in that period as well.

9) Tomas Soucek (West Ham) - 7.63 form rating

Without a goal in back-to-back matches, West Ham ace Tomas Soucek is in danger of dropping out of the top-10 completely. That isn't to suggest he isn't playing well, as he is. Across his last six appearances, Soucek has scored twice and returned 7.3 aerial duels won per game. Not only that, but Soucek averages 3.3 clearances per game and 2.8 tackles and interceptions combined per game.

8) Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City) - 7.63 form rating

Ilkay Gundogan can count himself unlucky to drop places in back-to-back gameweeks as the Manchester City midfielder is in the form of his life. Gundogan has impressively scored four goals in his last six appearances for City, notably averaging 3 shots per game in that time. Not just popping up in unfamiliar advanced areas, Gundogan is still managing to be superbly efficient in possession. In fact, the lowest pass success rate he has recorded across his last six is 89.5%.

7) Jack Grealish (Aston Villa) - 7.63 form rating

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has dropped two places in our standings following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in midweek. Grealish has now failed to register a single attempt in back-to-back Premier League games and is without a goal in his last seven. The 25-year-old may not be troubling opposition goalkeepers himself, but he is still spearheading Villa going forward. Across his last six appearances, Grealish averages 4.8 key passes per game, 3.2 successful dribbles per game and 5 fouls won per game.

6) Paul Pogba (Manchester United) - 7.66 form rating

After a week out of the top-10, Paul Pogba returns following his stunning winner against Fulham on Wednesday. Pogba has now scored two goals in his last three Premier League appearances, as many as his previous 34 outings in the competition combined. Importantly, both of his recent strikes have been matchwinners, with United two points clear at the top of the table. Finally at full fitness, United are seeing the best of Pogba.

5) Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) - 7.72 form rating

Down one place, Bukayo Saka didn't have the chance to impact his form rankings as Arsenal were not in Premier League action in midweek. Nevertheless, the Arsenal starlet is fully deserving of his place in the side after helping spark their recent up-turn in form. Now on the right wing, Saka has returned three goals in his last five appearances for the Gunners and has impressively completed more than 90% of his attempted passes in their last two games.

4) Rodri (Manchester City) - 7.76 form rating

Rodri has certainly underwhelmed generally since his big money move to Manchester City but the defensive midfielder is currently enjoying a real purple patch of form and gatecrashes the top-10 for the first time. Named the WhoScored Premier League player of the week from City's 2-0 win over Aston Villa, the Spaniard is straight in at four. Rodri benefitted from remarkable officiating to register his first assist of the campaign in midweek. Rodri has averaged 2.8 tackles per game across his last six games, well above his season average (1.9), and also won 3.7 aerial duels per game, again well above his season average (2.6).

3) Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 7.61 form rating

The only Chelsea player coming out of this season with any credit at the moment is Mason Mount. For all the money spent by Chelsea this summer, Mount has clearly emerged as their best player. Even in defeat to Leicester in midweek, Mount performed well and was the fifth highest WhoScored rated player on display in a 2-0 loss. In defeat, Mount remarkably made 12 tackles and interceptions combined. In fact, only on two occasions has that tally been bettered in a Premier League game this season. Moreover, across his last six appearances, Mount averages 4.2 key passes per game.

2) Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 7.85 form rating

Kevin De Bruyne's form rating won't change for a while now and he may even drop out of the top-10 completely now injured and potentially out for up to a month. De Bruyne lasted an hour before coming off against Aston Villa in midweek, ending his run of registering an assist in three straight matches. In fact, a rating of 6.71 is his third lowest of the season from Premier League starts and knocks him off top spot in our form ranking. Nevertheless, across De Bruyne's last six matches he has played a direct hand in five goals (one goal, four assists).

1) Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 7.91 form rating

Harry Kane takes top spot from Kevin De Bruyne without having to kick a ball. De Bruyne's fall was enough to allow Kane into first. Even though Tottenham didn't play in midweek, it's hard to argue against Kane, who is our best rated player overall this season, being first. The Tottenham striker has scored in three straight matches and has played a direct hand in four goals in total in that time.
