Team News

Ipswich
Brentford
  • Dean Gerken, Flynn Downes and Bersant Celina could all return to first team action this weekend to thin Mick McCarthy's injury concerns.
  • The Ipswich manager only made one substitute in midweek and would ideally like to freshen things up, but he has such a thin squad at the moment so that may not be possible.
  • Martyn Waghorn has scored three goals in two league games since joining over the summer and is already an important player for Ipswich.
  • Josh McEachran was strechered off against Bristol City in midweek and will play no part for the forseeable future, which should pave the way for new signing Kamo Mokotjo to start in midfield.
  • Dean Smith said there would be changes to the defence for Tuesday's midweek game but that didn't stop them from conceding two goals, although that was still an improvement on the game before.
  • John Egan may return to the team as Harlee Dean continues to be linked with a move away from the club.
  • Ryan Woods and his partner sadly announced the loss of their baby in midweek and the midfielder is expected to miss out this weekend as a result.
  • Sergi Canos remains troubled by an ankle injury, while fellow midfielders Alan Judge and Lewis Macleod are long-term absentees.

Prediction

  • Ipswich are one of only three teams left in the Championship with a 100% record, which is all the more remarkable when you consider how extensive their injury concerns are. They are now looking to win their opening four league games of the season for the first time since the 1974-75 campaign.
  • Brentford, meanwhile, have only taken one point from their first three matches and are only above the bottom three on goals scored. The Bees do, however, have a good recent record against Ipswich. The home side have failed to win their last five Championship matches against Brentford, although three have ended in draws. Ipswich have even conceded in nine of their 10 previous league matches against Brentford, while the Bees have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 13 Championship away matches - there will be goals in this match.
  • Considering, Mick McCarthy has failed to win any of his last five matches against Brentford since a 4-2 win nearly three years ago, the Tractor Boys could drop their first league points of the season this weekend.

  • Ipswich to win is valued 3.10 at bet365?! What's the catch here? Why does it seem so unrealistic for this to happpen?
