Team News

Hamburg
Borussia M.Gladbach
  • Matthi Steinmann and Albin Ekdal compete for a spot in defensive midfield.
  • Nicolai Müller made a surprising return from injury last Saturday and might provide an option for the starting XI on either flank.
  • Filip Kostic could return on the right flank, with Aaron Hunt and Luca Waldschmidt competing for a spot in the centre.
  • Jannik Vestergaard returns from a one-match ban and is expected to replace Tony Jantschke in the back-four.
  • Christoph Kramer and Denis Zakaria return from suspensions as well, with Michaël Cuisance and Tobias Strobl most likely dropping to the bench again.
  • Josip Drmic should replace the injured Lars Stindl up front again.

Prediction

  • Hamburg failed to take advantage of Wolfsburg's defeat last weekend, as they themselves lost 3-0 at Frankfurt. They need a win here to be in with a small chance of reaching the relegation play-off spot, but are dependant on already relegated Cologne winning at Wolfsburg to avoid the first relegation in the club's history.
  • Gladbach have only lost one of their last seven matches and still have a small chance of qualifying for the Europa League. They've only won four of their 16 away games this season, though, and need to pick up a fifth win on the road to have any chance of still saving a rather disappointing season.
  • Expect this to be a hard-fought and intense game from the outset, with both teams in need of a win and dependant on results elsewhere to reach their respective targets.
