Team News

Girona
Real Valladolid
  • Johan Mojica is out due to injury, with Aday Benitez serving a one-match ban from the tail end of last La Liga season. Marc Muniesa will have to fill in at left-back for the hosts.
  • After the departure of Pablo Maffeo last season, Porro will be asked to start the season at right-back, with Eusebio switching to a four-man defence.
  • Aleix Garcia, Pere Pons and Alex Granell should make up a midfield three, with Cristhian Stuani still something of a doubt to start after not long returning from his post-World Cup break.
  • Girona confirmed the arrival of Patrick Roberts from Manchester City on loan on Thursday and he could be involved from the bench here.
  • Keko is expected to make his debut on the right-hand side of the attack after joining on loan from second-tier Malaga this summer.
  • Chris Ramos is expected to lead the line, with Valladolid still in the market for another striker before the transfer window shuts at the end of the month.
  • Daniele Verde isn't expected to be immediately involved since joining on loan from Roma, with fellow loanee Ivi out with an injury problem.

Prediction

  • Girona ended last season with just two wins from their final 10 La Liga fixtures, with Eusebio having the unenviable task of following on from the incredible work of Pablo Machin. He will have to do so with a squad that didn't even end the previous campaign in good shape.
  • The home side had a strong spell at Montilivi between December and March of last season, but four consecutive home defeats were not the best way to end the campaign. If Girona are to keep the threat of relegation at bay this time around, they need to be hard to break down on their own patch.
  • Valladolid lost their top goalscorer last season, Jaime Mata, and without a stellar replacement, it is looking tough for the away side to start the new season in positive fashion on the road.
