Team News

Millwall
Stoke
  • Gary Rowett will stick with the 3-4-2-1 system that he deployed throughout the 2021/22 campaign for the opening day with Leeds United loanees Charlie Cresswell and Jamie Shackleton both in line for debuts.
  • The Lions could line up with two attacking midfielders on Saturday with Zian Flemming and George Honeyman also set to start.
  • Benik Afobe should lead the line ahead of Tom Bradshaw.
  • Michael O'Neill could opt for a 3-5-2 system this weekend with new signing Dwight Gayle set to partner Tyrese Campbell up front.
  • The Potters have no recognised right-backs aside from Demeaco Duhaney, so expected the Huddersfield academy graduate to start on opening day.

Prediction

  • Millwall may have lost long-serving playmaker Jed Wallace in the summer, but the Lions will be heading into the new season with plenty of options after adding highly-rated prospect Zian Flemming to their ranks. The South London club have been consistently on the fringes of the playoff places in recent seasons and will likely be there again this time around.
  • The jury is still out on Stoke manager Michael O'Neill, but heavy backing in the summer transfer window means the pressure is on for the former Northern Ireland boss this season. The Potters have added strength to an already stacked midfield, signing Josh Laurent on a free transfer from Reading and Will Smallbone on loan from Premier League outfit Southampton.
