Team News

Celta Vigo
Osasuna
  • Carles Pérez, Jonathan Bamba, and Manu Sánchez have all signed for Celta this summer under new boss Rafa Benítez, and all three could start against Osasuna.
  • Benítez, so far, has managed to hold on to sought-after wonder kid Gabri Viega, and if selectable he will start in midfield. However, it is reported that Napoli are preparing a bid that would trigger the 21 year old's €40m release clause.
  • 22 year old Carlos Dotor joins Celta from Real Madrid after impressing for the B team in Segunda División B. He could become more relied on should Viega depart the club this summer.
  • New centre-back Alejandro Catena joins Osasuna from Rayo in the place of Ardiane Hernandez, who has moved in the the other direction. Catena is fit and ready to start.
  • Johan Mojica, a pacey, attacking left-back, who joins the club on loan from Villarreal, could also feature in the starting XI on Sunday.
  • Last season's Copa del Ray finalists begin the season with a fully fit squad, with the exception Darko Brasanac, who is out until at least December.

Prediction

  • Osasuna qualified for the UEFA Conference League last season after finishing seventh in La Liga, and look strong under esteemed coach Jagoba Arrasate, who has managed to keep most of his key players from the the club's impressive previous campaign.
  • Both teams have been in good form throughout pre-season, with little separating the two in their previous 14 meetings, with Celta winning five and Osasuna winning four, so a tight game is expected on Sunday.
  • Rafa Benítez, who joins as Celta Vigo coach a year on from his disappointing stint at Everton, is renowned for his defensive strength and in-depth fixture preparation, so a clean sheet in his opening game could be a likely outcome.
