Team News

Cadiz
Deportivo Alaves
  • Loan signings Darwin Machís and Javi Hernandez look set to earn starting spots for Cadiz.
  • Gonzalo Escalante, who joins the club permanently from Lazio, will aim to build on his importance to the south coast club following a season on loan last season.
  • Cadiz are without Brian Ocampo, Luis Hernández, and Sergi Guardiola; all are sidelined with significant injuries.
  • Youngster Rafa Marín, joining on loan from Real Madrid, looks set to make his debut for newly promoted Alaves.
  • Antonio Blanco was on loan at Cadiz for the first half of last season before switching for Alaves in January. The midfielder joins the Basque club on a permanent deal this summer and will probably start.
  • Ander Guevara should make his debut after joining from Real Sociedad.
  • Loanee Giuliano Simeone is out indefinitely with a leg and ankle break.

Prediction

  • With both sides tipped as favourites for relegation, this opening fixture could prove a vital one come the end of the season.
  • Cadiz are suffering from a considerable injury list, having lost their most important attacker, Theo Bongonda, to Spartak Moscow this summer. The Belgian scored four goals and assisted three in La Liga last season, and the hosts will struggle to find the net without him.
  • Alaves have been competent in the transfer market since their promotion to La Liga last season, a new midfield duo in Blanco and Guevara, while recruiting Rafa Marín, on loan from Real Madrid, in defence. They look a little light up front, though; striker Miguel De la Fuente netted only four times last season in the Segunda Division. Alaves will miss Asier Villalibre's goals from last season.
  • In terms of form, little separates the two sides, with both having scored four goals in their last five games. A goalless draw could be likely on Monday night.
