Team News

Deportivo Alaves
Sevilla
  • Alaves were narrowly beaten by Cadiz last week and will likely stick with the same starting XI having picked up no fresh injuries or suspensions.
  • Kike Garcia, signed from Osasuna this summer, will likely feature off the bench again as he was unable to make a solid impact last week.
  • Antonio Blanco, who reportedly picked up a slight knock in the game against Cadiz, has been confirmed fit and ready by Luis Garcia.
  • New signing Djibril Sow is could start for Sevilla in their La Liga opener, an injection of pace and power into their experienced but otherwise ageing midfield.
  • Marko Dmitrovic will keep his place as the starting goalkeeper following Yassine Bounou's exit.
  • Adria Pedroza has featured in pre-season for the club since his arrival from Espanyol this summer. His injury-plagued campaign last year saw him barely play, however, he is fit and ready to play a supporting role.

Prediction

  • José Luis Mendilibar criticised the state of football itself following the club's Super Cup penalty shootout loss to Manchester City on Wednesday, arguing that clubs interested in his players are "messing with him from all sides." Yassine Bounou has joined Al Hilal while left-back Marcos Acuña is still a stop target for Unai Emery's Aston Villa. Sevilla, who already have squad depth issues, while not plugging all the necessary holes in the summer transfer window, could struggle if both players leave the club.
  • Alaves marked their La Liga return as was expected. A stop-start game with plenty of aggression and stoppage time, on another day they could have earned a point against Cadiz. They will certainly be looking to do the same again, but haven't beaten Sevilla in ten matches.
  • Sevilla also have a point to prove, coming off of two consecutive losses, and will likely take the three points in this one.
