Team News

Las Palmas
Real Sociedad
  • Summer signing Daley Sinkgraven was substituted in the first half in Las Palmas' 1-0 defeat to Valencia last week - Sergi Cardona should come in to replace him.
  • Employing a 4-2-3-1 last week made Las Palmas more fluid in possession, but allowed Valencia to break their defensive lines much more easily. It is possible they will revert back to a 4-5-1 that earned them a point against Mallorca.
  • That being said, García Pimienta is still working out how to best use star player captain Jonathan Viera this season, and could play him in a number of places in order to find a suitable rhythm.
  • Real Sociedad's goalscoring problems were repeated again last week in a lacklustre 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo, Umar Sadiq came off the bench again, and looks fit, so this week may well get his chance in the starting eleven.
  • Mikel Merino has been set back further with his foot injury, he will be out until mid September now.
  • Ander Barrenetxea started over Mikel Oyarzabal against Celta and scored. He could start again as Oyarzabal is linked with a move away.
  • Highly rated signing Arsen Zakharyan is registered and ready to make an appearance against Las Palmas on Friday

Prediction

  • Both teams were disappointed last week: Sociedad conceding a last minute Oscar Mingueza equaliser against Celta Vigo, whilst Las Palmas could not overturn a one goal cushion and fell to defeat against a tricky Valencia.
  • Las Palmas seem to need to work out how to be more clinical in front of goal, but La Real - made worse by the absence of Mikel Merino - need to create a great deal more chances to be able to hold a lead. With this Friday being their first away game of the season, making the long trip to the Canary Islands could prove difficult for Sociedad to come away with three points.
  • Moreover, the teams hold an equal share of three victories each in their last eight meetings, meaning the hosts will not roll over to their Champions League bred opposition.
  • That being said, the return of Umar Sadiq to full fitness and the arrival of young superstar Arsen Zakharyan could propel La Real to their first, and greatly anticipated, victory of the season.
