Team News

Barcelona
Deportivo Alaves
  • Pedri could make only his third start in the league this year having returned from a significant injury - he came off the bench in last week's late win at Sociedad.
  • Gavi is out after accumulating a suspension-worthy number of yellow cards in twelve matches so far this season.
  • Samu Omorodion is rumoured to be getting another string of games up top for Alaves and could come in this weekend to replace Kike Garcia.
  • Aleksander Sedlar will man the heart of defence, flying high with confidence after his first - and crucial - goal for the club in last week's win over Almeria.

Prediction

  • Barcelona are coming off the back of their first Champions League defeat since October of last year, losing 1-0 to Shaktar away from home.
  • They have a point to prove this weekend, and could let loose on visitors Alaves, especially since Pedri is expected to start his first game in two months.
  • Robert Lewandowski has been struggling for form, and Pedri's introduction into the mix can allow him to play on the edge of the opposition penalty box, just as he likes, rather than running in behind to generate goal-scoring opportunities.
  • Alaves earned their first victory in eight matches last weekend, beating bottom side Almeria in a crucial six-pointer at the foot of the table.
  • The visitors are now five points from the drop, and the pressure will be off for them in this travelling fixture to play some decent football and give their fans a deserved display.
  • Barcelona should take the victory here, though. A Pedri masterclass on his return would not be surprising.
