Team News

Villarreal
Osasuna
  • Marcelino will most likely field his side in a 4-4-2 - his preferred formation.
  • Aissa Mandi and Alexander Sorloth join Villarreal's lengthy injury list. Yeremy Pino, Juan Foyth, Alfonso Pedraza, and Francis Coquelin are all still first team absentees for the club.
  • Jose Luis Morales should join Gerard Moreno up top, he scored both goals in the Copa Del Rey victory over Zamora on Wednesday evening.
  • Osasuna are without only Darko Brasanac for this one...
  • Ante Budimir, who was capped for the first time for Croatia in the international break, will be brimming with confidence and should lead the line for the visitors on Sunday afternoon.

Prediction

  • Hosting Osasuna on Sunday marks the first game in charge for new Villarreal boss Marcelino, who returns after a bitter split from the club in 2016. Having won their last two matches against the visitors, Villarreal will hope to turn around a poor run of form that has seen them without a win since September.
  • Osasuna, on the other hand, are somewhat struggling themselves, and are certainly failing to build on their solid season last year, which saw them finish 7th in the table. They now lie in 12th place and have been unable to garner any momentum at home or on the road as they approach match day 14.
  • Villarreal should be expected - despite their lengthy injury list - to have some sort of 'new manager bounce' under Marcelino on Sunday, but predicting a draw from two current mid-table sides is a sensible outcome here.
