Team News

Barcelona
Girona
  • Joao Cancelo is fully fit now and could slot straight again in as Barcelona aim to go toe to toe with the attacking Girona.
  • Oriol Romeu could be left on the bench against his former club due to Ilkay Gundogan starting a string of games for the Catalan giants.
  • Joao Felix and Raphinha could sandwich the struggling Robert Lewandowski in attack.
  • Artem Dovbyk is back but could be juggled by Michel in this game with Cristhian Stuani due to the Uruguayan's fantastic xg per 90 ratio (0.96).
  • Yangel Herrera is out with a thigh injury, Ibrahima Kebe could fill in for him in the middle of the park.

Prediction

  • Barcelona play a second consecutive home game in two weeks against a Girona side that are still keeping the pace with the El Classico sides at the summit of La Liga. Xavi's side were able to keep a monumental clean sheet against Atleti last week in a vital six pointer, whilst Girona's Cristhian Stuani scored two goals in the last ten minutes to dismantle Valencia.
  • The injury to Yangel Herrera should be a concern for the visiting side, as Barcelona could boss the midfield and suppress the fantastic creativity of Aleix Garcia, who rather untimely told the press this week that it would be 'his dream' to play for Barcelona one day.
  • Barcelona look fully confident at the moment, and could be in pole position to hand Girona only their second loss of the season, closing the gap between them to just a point.

  • Against ATM, after a very long time, saw Barcelona playing one-touch two touch football, accurate and meaningful passes. Not the ugly high ball, body checking 2nd ball winning battles in the middle, at least for first 65 minutes. It okay to not win. To play good football is what Barcelona is supposed to be. Confidence and win will come eventually. They way, Gundogan, De Jong and Pedri came out of high press, the passes from back to front, the linking between Lewa and wingers, runners was good to see. Hope they play good, keep the ball, keep the scoring to minimum. A free flowing end to end football doesn't suit this barcelona team at this stage, as they lack multiple scorers.

  • @SYunusAli So what you're basically saying is that Barcelona's football culture is playing good football, but not necessarily winning. Whereas Real Madrid's football culture is just this - winning. Maybe that's why Real Madrid have won almost three times more European Cups than Barcelona. I get it now.

  • @Sputnik:. That's malicious, this guy only made analysis based on what he watched Barca played the last game, Madrid was successful in previous years, but that doesn't take away barca style and the threats they pose going forward.

  • @Goldmind Why is it malicious? I don't hate Barcelona, I was just stating facts. Do you disagree about the two clubs' football philosophies? Barcelona used to have a much better version of this philosophy during the Guardiola years - winning while playing good football. And it did get them results. Nowadays the club is a shadow of its former self and has downgraded this philosophy to just playing good football, without the winning. That's not the philosophy of a big club.
