Team News

Rangers
Aberdeen
  • Rangers manager Michael Beale named four changes to the Gers team that beat Motherwell 1-0 at Ibrox in their last Scottish Premiership match, before they advanced to the League Cup semi-finals with a 4-0 win at home to Livingston.
  • Ridvan Yilmaz replaced Borna Barisic and scored to put the Gers two to the good on Wednesday night. Ryan Jack entered the midfield, joining John Lundstram and Jose Cifuentes in the middle of the park, to net the Gers' fourth goal in midweek.
  • Rabbi Matondo picked up an injury at the weekend and he was replaced by Abdallah Sima, who fired Rangers in front against Livi. Kemar Roofe took Cyriel Dessers' place up front but seems to have picked up an injury in their last match.
  • Aberdeen boss Barry Robson named one enforced change after the Dons' first league victory of the season where they beat Ross County 4-0 at Pittodrie, before they beat the same opponents in Dingwall 2-1 in their League Cup quarter-final.
  • Richard Jensen, Slobodan Rubezic and Stefan Gartenmann continued as the centre backs with Nicky Devlin at right wing-back. Jonny Hayes replaced the injured James McGarry at left wing-back.
  • Despite scoring in Germany, Dante Polvara couldn't force his way into the starting eleven. Connor Barron and Graeme Shinnie started in the middle of the park with Jamie McGrath supporting Duk and Bojan Miovski in attack.

Prediction

  • Both Rangers and Aberdeen booked their place in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals on Wednesday night, before avoiding one another in the semi-final draw.
  • Rangers are favourites to win the tournament and will face Hearts at Hampden in their last-four tie. Until then, they've got to keep plugging away and attempt to close the gap from themselves to the top of the table. Heading into the weekend's fixtures, they trail arch-rivals Celtic by four points and know that they cannot afford any slip-ups whilst juggling continental and domestic football.
  • As for Aberdeen, they'll take on Hibernian at Hampden with a real possibility of reaching another cup final. Having recently picked up their first Scottish Premiership victory in emphatic fashion against Ross County, they also got the better of the Staggies in the League Cup and are starting to record more domestic wins. They'd love to claim three points at Ibrox to kickstart their season.
  • Despite Aberdeen beginning to turn their season around, there's a huge pressure on Rangers to win the League Cup and - more importantly - try to close the gap at the top of the league table.
