Team News

St. Mirren
Dundee FC
  • Stephen Robinson named two changes from the St Mirren side that smashed Forfar Athletic 4-0 in their final League Cup group stage match, before a wonderful opening day victory at Easter Road where they beat Hibernian 3-2.
  • Greg Kiltie replaced Israeli summer signing Stav Nahmani, who is on loan at the Buddies from Maccabi Haifa in his homeland. He joined Mark O'Hara, who opened the scoring from the spot, and Keanu Baccus in midfield.
  • St Mirren were forced into a late change which proved dividends. Mikael Mandron pulled up in the warm-up but his replacement - Toyosi Olusanya - put Saints two to the good in Edinburgh. After blowing a two-goal lead, substitute Alex Greive nicked all three points for the Buddies and he's pushing for a start here.
  • Tony Docherty made three changes from Dundee's 1-0 win against Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Dens Park in their final League Cup group stage match, before being held at home by Motherwell in a 1-1 draw.
  • Trevor Carson, who left the Dee's weekend opponents, wasn't able to make his Dundee debut at the weekend. Lyall Cameron, who grabbed Dundee's equaliser, replaced Scott Tiffoney in the starting eleven against Motherwell.
  • Luke McCowan took Josh Mulligan's place on the right-hand side of midfield. Zach Robinson, who grabbed the winner against Caley, was partnered by Amadou Bakayoko as he replaced Diego Pineda up front.

Prediction

  • St Mirren and Dundee both enjoyed successful 2022/23 seasons, with the Buddies finishing in the top six of the Scottish Premiership for the first time and Dundee returning to the top tier.
  • It may be early, but Saints provided a sample of their top-six credentials with a last-gasp victory against a Hibernian side that's expected to occupy a European place. Stephen Robinson had never won at Easter Road - prior to the weekend - as either Motherwell or St Mirren manager so the monkey's off his back as Saints aim to build on or attempt to better last season's fifth-place finish.
  • Dundee will be disappointed not to have won their season opener, in front of their fans at Dens Park on flag day, as the reigning Scottish Championship champions. But they showed some character to bounce back from a goal down against Motherwell, picking up a point, which gives them a base to build upon. Home form will be vital, with any points on the road seen as a bonus.
  • Saints' home form proved pivotal last season, and they'll look to make it two wins from as many league matches against Dundee here.
