Team News

Celtic
St. Mirren
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named one enforced change to the Celts side that was held at home 2-2 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, before a goalless draw at Easter Road against Hibernian on Saturday afternoon.
  • Joe Hart continued in goal behind a back four of Alastair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor. Club captain Callum McGregor was joined by Matt O'Riley and Paulo Bernardo - replacing Reo Hatate - in midfield.
  • Luis Palma and Daizen Maeda began on the flanks, both in support of main marksman Kyogo Furuhashi. David Turnbull, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston and Hyun-Gyu Oh all came off the bench in Edinburgh but to no avail.
  • Stephen Robinson named two changes to the St Mirren side whose unbeaten start to the Scottish Premiership season came to an end courtesy of a 3-0 defeat to Rangers in Paisley, before they smashed St Johnstone 4-0 at the weekend.
  • Ryan Strain, who made his Australia debut during the international break, was sent off against the Gers over three weeks ago. But the Buddies hadn't played since then, so Ryan Flynn took his spot at right wing-back.
  • The only other alteration saw Greg Kiltie and Conor McMenamin - who netted for Northern Ireland against San Marino recently - supporting top scorer Mikael Mandron as opposed to Toyosi Olusanya.

Prediction

  • Two of the Scottish Premiership's top three teams this season meet in Glasgow on Wednesday night, as Celtic host St Mirren at Celtic Park.
  • For league leaders Celtic, their weekend match against Hibernian provided an unfamiliar feeling as they were stopped in their tracks for just the second time this season. The gap at the top of the table was cut to five points, after Rangers left it late to get the better of Hearts, so the Hoops will want to return to winning ways both this midweek and when they play Ross County on Saturday.
  • St Mirren showed no signs of rustiness - despite no league fixture for nearly three weeks - and will make the short journey to Glasgow brimming with confidence. They could go within five points of their opponents if they emerged victorious at Parkhead, and would still have a game in hand. Their progress this season has been remarkable and they can keep dreaming for the time being.
  • St Mirren handed Celtic their first league defeat last season but, whilst they'd love to do so again here, only took a point from the other three meetings. Celtic should return to winning ways in this one.
