Team News

St. Johnstone
Celtic
  • St Johnstone boss Craig Levein made three changes from the Saints team that picked up a pivotal 1-0 win against Ross County at McDiarmid Park, before they fell to defeat against Hearts at Tynecastle by the same scoreline last weekend.
  • Dara Costelloe replaced James Brown at right wing-back, with Luke Robinson starting on the left hand side. The back three consisted of Andy Considine, Liam Gordon and Ryan McGowan once more.
  • Max Kucheriavyi took Graham Carey's place in midfield, to accompany Dan Phillips and Matt Smith. Chris Kane was partnered by the incoming Stevie May, as Nicky Clark was also omitted from the matchday squad alongside Brown and Carey.
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named three changes to the Celts side that were held at home by Motherwell in a 1-1 draw on Saturday, before Lazio eliminated the Hoops from the Champions League with a 2-0 defeat in Rome on Tuesday.
  • Alistair Johnston didn't feature at the weekend upon his return from international duty with Canada, but started in the Italian capital at Anthony Ralston's expense. Paulo Bernardo took Odin Thiago Holm's spot in midfield for the midweek match.
  • Luis Palma was suspended for the game at the Stadio Olimpico, which meant James Forrest replaced the Honduran on the right. On the left, Hyun-Jun Yang continued to support Celtic's main marksman Kyogo Furuhashi up front.

Prediction

  • Both St Johnstone and Celtic were left disappointed with their Scottish Premiership results last weekend ahead of the two teams meeting at McDiarmid Park this weekend.
  • Thanks to Ross County's slender victory against St Mirren on Tuesday night, coupled with the loss at Tynecastle to Hearts, St Johnstone fell into the relegation playoff place in midweek. This weekend, County and Livingston play one another and Aberdeen travel to take on Hibs, so it's not just Saints who have a tough test as there are tricky fixtures for their relegation rivals too.
  • Celtic were also left disappointed in midweek, as their latest European adventure won't continue beyond Christmas. Therefore their attention turns towards two domestic trophies, the Scottish Cup, which is yet to start, and the league. Their last Scottish Premiership match was a forgettable one, the draw with Motherwell, so the league leaders will hope to pack a punch in Perth.
  • Last October, Celtic left it late to sneak past St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park but they'll want a more comfortable victory in Perth given Saints picked up a point at Parkhead in August.
