Team News

Hearts
Ross County
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made three changes after the Jambos clinched a 2-0 win at the weekend against St Mirren at Tynecastle, before they left it late to win the Edinburgh derby by a sole goal at Easter Road against Hibs.
  • Craig Halkett made way for Stephen Kingsley who, scored a cracking free-kick away to the league leaders but picked up an injury at Celtic Park, was fit to return and join Kye Rowles and Frankie Kent in the Hearts' back three.
  • Beni Baningime and Aidan Denholm remained in midfield, but were joined by Calem Nieuwenhof as Barrie McKay dropped onto the bench. Yutaro Oda was also on there as Alan Forrest joined the derby matchwinner Lawrence Shankland up front.
  • Ross County boss Derek Adams named one change to the Staggies side that fell to a 2-0 defeat to St Mirren in Paisley, before it became back-to-back defeats as they lost late on to Dundee in Dingwall by a sole goal a fortnight ago.
  • The only alteration saw Will Nightingale, who missed the St Mirren match through suspension, replace Dylan Smith in defence. Ben Purrington, Scott Allardice, Connor Randall and James Brown are the chosen four-man midfield at present.
  • Yan Dhanda supported Jordan White and Simon Murray in attack. The Staggies are without injured duo Ross Callachan and Ben Paton, who have been unavailable since April and January respectively.

Prediction

  • Third top takes on third bottom, as Hearts host Ross County in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.
  • Hearts have come through what looked like a brutal December relatively unscathed, with their last trio of results proving very impressive. They clinched a long-overdue victory at Celtic Park and swept aside St Mirren at Tynecastle, before claiming the Edinburgh derby bragging rights at Easter Road late on. The Jambos will have a fourth league win on the spin firmly in their sights here.
  • Ross County's schedule has been disrupted with back-to-back league matches postponed, albeit against two of the tougher teams in the division. Relegation rivals Motherwell and Livingston play one another but they come up against two teams who will want to secure third, before the winter break. Their task of pulling away from a basement battle doesn't appear to be getting any easier.
  • There's a feel-good factor beginning to develop at Tynecastle and Hearts will hope that the festive cheer continues with a win against Ross County in Edinburgh.
