Team News

Celtic
Hearts
  • Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers named two changes to the Celts side that fell to their first Scottish Premiership defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park, before they signed off in Europe with a 2-1 win against Feyenoord.
  • Stephen Welsh was the surprise starter at centre-back in the Hoops' final Champions League group-stage game against the Dutch outfit, replacing Liverpool loanee Nat Phillips, to make his first appearance since August against Aberdeen.
  • Gustaf Lagerbielke headed home the winner, so may stake a claim to start in defence. Luis Palma, who scored Wednesday's opener from the spot, joined Mikey Johnston in support of main marksman Kyogo Furuhashi - who replaced Hyun-Gyu Oh in attack.
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made three changes after the Jambos lost their midweek match to Rangers at Tynecastle by a 1-0 scoreline, before they made it back-to-back defeats as they lost late on 2-1 to Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
  • Kye Rowles, Frankie Kent and Stephen Kingsley continued as the Jambos' back three with Craig Halkett back on the bench. Alex Cochrane started at left wing-back, with Toby Sibbick taking Nathaniel Atkinson's place on the right.
  • Alex Lowry was ineligible against his parent club, on loan from Rangers, but came back in up north at Jorge Grant's expense. Kyosuke Tagawa dropped out of the starting eleven as Kenneth Vargas joined Hearts' talisman Lawrence Shankland up front.

Prediction

  • Two of last season's top four meet in Glasgow, as league leaders Celtic host Hearts in the standout Scottish Premiership fixture this weekend.
  • Celtic head into the weekend disappointed with a rare domestic defeat, away to Kilmarnock, but leaving European competition on a high after their first Champions League victory at Parkhead in over a decade. There's no European football for the reigning Scottish champions after Christmas, but there are two trophies up for grabs. They'll want to bounce back from the Kilmarnock catastrophe by claiming three points here.
  • Hearts head west having fallen to back-to-back Scottish Premiership defeats, hoping not to record a third on the spin. Fixtures were favourable in November, as the Jambos made it three wins from as many league games and they started December with an impressive win in Ayrshire against Killie. However, hard tests have since followed and their matches don't get any easier here with big clashes aplenty before the winter break.
  • Hearts' record at Celtic Park is rancid and, up against a buoyant Celtic side, the visitors could be put to the sword this weekend as the hosts aim to get back to winning ways domestically.
