If Arda Guler starts, Turkey wins. The problem is that the coach might not start him because coaches nowadays overthink this simple game: they want to maintain possession instead of scoring. But if your priority is to maintain possession you must adopt a defensive game plan without sufficient speed to beat the opposition, without the risk taking necessary to surprise the opposing defense, and with too many touches on the ball. Arda Guler is actually a goal seeking player who likes to give through passes piercing through the opposition's defense. For such a player you need quick teammates who make darting runs into open space behind the defense. In a stupid, ball possession based system anyone seeking to score goals quickly will not prosper (for example Haaland in Manchester City: his goal scoring prowess seriously diminished compared to his performance in Dortmund.
