Team News

Celtic
Hearts
  • Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers made just one change from the side that secured a Scottish Cup final spot on penalties after a 3-3 draw against Aberdeen, before a 2-1 victory over Dundee at Dens Park last Sunday.
  • Liam Scales returned to the heart of the Celtic defence, accompanying Cameron Carter-Vickers in front of Joe Hart in goal. Alistair Johnston and Greg Taylor continued at right-back and left-back respectively.
  • Club captain Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Matt O'Riley made up the Hoops midfield. James Forrest came off the bench to fire Celtic in front in a Hampden classic against Aberdeen, was rewarded with a start, and bagged a brace at Yang Hyun-Jun's expense.
  • Hearts boss Steven Naismith made three changes from the Jambos suffering Hampden heartache as they lost 2-0 to Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final, before a goalless draw away to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park last Saturday.
  • Zander Clark replaced Craig Gordon in goal, to keep his 15th clean sheet of the Scottish Premiership season. Alex Cochrane replaced Alan Forrest on the left flank, as the Jambos switched to a three-at-the-back formation.
  • Dexter Lembikisa replaced the injured Nathaniel Atkinson at right wing-back. Jorge Grant, Cammy Devlin and Beni Baningime continued in the middle of the park. Kenneth Vargas moved up front, to join Lawrence Shankland in attack.

Prediction

  • First meets third, with Celtic's season far from over as they fight for the Scottish Premiership title and Hearts on the verge of securing European group stage football.
  • Celtic's outrageous record against Dundee continued, having gone 43 without defeat to the Dee since a 2-0 loss at Parkhead back in May 2001. Only from October 1965 to October 1971 have the Hoops been more dominant against Dundee. Seeing Rangers win against St Mirren on Sunday meant they had to respond with three points and it's their turn to apply the pressure this weekend.
  • However, Hearts have beaten Celtic twice this season in the Scottish Premiership and did so thanks to keeping consecutive clean sheets against the Hoops for the first time since 1993/94. That's the first time the Jambos have clinched back-to-back victories over Celtic since 2009/10 but, given their opponents are aiming for the title, it'd be a tough task to secure a third win on the spin.
  • Celtic will feel aggrieved, having lost back-to-back games against Hearts, and should sweep the Jambos aside - ahead of next weekend's derby - to go a step closer to the Scottish Premiership title.
