Gary Rowett sacked by Championship side Stoke

Stoke have confirmed they have sacked manager Gary Rowett after just eight months in charge of the club.

The Potters were one of the pre-season favourites to get promoted from the Championship but have fallen well short of expectations under Rowett.

Stoke invested more money than any other Championship side over the summer but languish down in 14th in the table and Rowett has now been relieved of his duties.

“Stoke City have terminated the contract of manager Gary Rowett,” a statement read on the club’s official website.

“Members of his immediate coaching staff have also left the bet365 Stadium. The club would like to thank Gary and his staff for their efforts over the past eight months.

“A new managerial appointment will be made as swiftly as possible but in the meantime Rory Delap, Kevin Russell and Andy Quy will take charge of first-team affairs.”

Rowett left Derby to become Stoke manager in May but things did not go to plan and the 44-year-old only managed to win eight league games of 26 this season.

Furthermore, only seven sides have garnered a lower WhoScored rating than Stoke in the Championship this term (6.69). David Moyes and Sam Allardyce reportedly head Stoke’s list of ideal replacements.
