Man Utd submit big contract offer for Bayern Munich ace
Manchester United have gazumped Bayern Munich's contract offer for Leon Goretzka, claims German outlet Bild.
Goretzka has entered the final 12 months of his current Bayern deal and is understood to be frustrated talks about a renewal are yet to get underway.
The Germany international's preference is to extend his stay at the club but United have made it clear they want the player.
Goretzka has been earmarked as a long-term replacement for Paul Pogba but they will face competition from the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid should he leave on a free next summer.
Goretzka's representatives are reportely demanding a package worth up to €20m to renew with Bayern but the Bundesliga outfit are so far only willing to cough up as much as €12m.
A number of high profile Bayern players are reportedly unhappy with the wage structure at the club, with players like Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman earning far less than Leroy Sane.
Bayern handed Sane a lucrative contract to leave Manchester City 12 months ago but he has fallen well short of expectations at the club.
Injuries limited Goretzka to just 18 starts in the Bundesliga last season and also restricted him to just one start at Euro 2020 for Germany.
Goretzka has played a direct hand in 33 goals in 78 Bundesliga appearances since joining Bayern from Schalke in 2018.
