Norwich’s improved offer for Walters rejected

Norwich City have had an improved offer of £2m for forward Jonathan Walters rejected by Stoke City, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Stoke have already turned down a bid of £1.5m from the Canaries for the Republic of Ireland international and are reportedly still hopeful Walters will sign a new deal.

Walters, 31, has entered the final 12 months of his contract and could find playing time harder to come by this season following the arrivals of Ibrahim Afellay and Xherdan Shaqiri this summer.

The former Ipswich Town forward has already expressed his disappointment at Stoke’s latest contract offer, but is unlikely to seal a move away after Mark Hughes admitted he’d rather see him leave for nothing next summer.

Since joining Stoke in 2010, no player has scored more Premier League goals than Walters (34).
