West Ham have announced they have sacked Slaven Bilic in the wake of the club’s 4-1 hammering at home to Liverpool on Saturday.
The Hammers are now one point adrift of safety after slipping into the relegation zone over the weekend and the club have moved to replace Bilic to boost their chances of survival.
Bilic has been walking the managerial tightrope for several weeks now and it’s hard to make a defence for the 49-year-old following a turbulent 12 months in east London.
“West Ham can confirm that Slaven Bilic has today left his position with the club,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The Chairmen and board of West Ham United would like to place on record their thanks and gratitude to Slaven and his team for their services over the past two-and-a-half years, but believe a change is now necessary in order for the club to move forward positively and in line with their ambition.
“The club’s search for a new manager to take West Ham United forward is underway and an announcement regarding Bilic’s successor is expected to be made over the coming days.”

West Ham are now expected to appoint former Manchester United manager David Moyes on a deal until the end of the season in a decision that will polarise opinion between supporters.
Moyes’ reputation as a manager has plummeted since leaving Everton to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford in 2013.
The 54-year-old didn’t even last a season at United, while he has also overseen failed stints at Real Sociedad and Sunderland since then.
Since August 2015, West Ham have committed the most errors that have directly led to an opposition goal in the Premier League (25).
