Manchester United have announced Jose Mourinho as their new manager on a three-year deal.
Mourinho, 53, has been heavily linked with the Premier League giants in recent months and has been the frontrunner to succeed Louis van Gaal after he was sacked at the start of the week.
The Portuguese manager has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December and United chief exceutive has described Mourinho as 'the best manager in the game today'.
“To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game,” Mourinho told the club’s official website. “It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.
“I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years.”
Mourinho has lost just 27 of the 211 Premier League matches he has taken charge of as manager, in which nine came during his final 16 matches in charge of Chelsea (12.8%).
