Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper prepared to leave this summer
Alphonse Areola has warned Paris Saint-Germain he will be forced to leave the club if they sign a new goalkeeper this summer.
The 24-year-old started the season as Unai Emery’s No.1 after being recalled from his two-year loan spell at Villarreal, but the former France U21 international finished the campaign on the bench after a series of mistakes cost his place in the team.
PSG have been heavily linked with a move for Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas following the appointment of Antero Henrique as the club’s new sporting director and Areola has confirmed he was told the Ligue 1 giants intend to sign another goalkeeper this summer.
“My future is very fluid for the moment,” he told Telefoot, via Get French Football. “With the arrival of the new sporting director [Antero Henrique], the discussions are blocked.
“I need to have a better season next then the last. It is important to have playing time… I was told at the end of the season that the club is looking for a goalkeeper. For me, it is impossible to become the third choice at PSG.”
PSG only committed three errors that directly led to an opposition goal in Ligue 1 this season and Areola was responsible for one of those.
