Tottenham confirm arrival of Southampton midfielder Hojbjerg
Tottenham have confirmed the arrival of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton on a long-term deal.
Jose Mourinho's side have fended off competition from Premier League rivals Everton to land Hojbjerg after agreeing a £15m deal with Saints.
Southampton have reluctantly cashed in on the former Bayern Munich midfielder after he refused to sign a new deal with the club.
Having entered the final 12 months of his current deal, Southampton have agreed to sell the midfielder now rather than letting him leave for nothing next summer.
Southampton initially accepted an offer for their former captain from Everton but Hojbjerg was only ever interested in joining Tottenham.
The north London outfit eventually matched Everton's offer and Hojbjerg completed his medical with Mourinho's side at the start of the week.
Hojbjerg, who was also linked with Ajax and Manchester City, won possession in the midfield third more times than any other player in the Premier League last season (181).
However, Hojbjerg attempted more shots (46) without scoring a single goal in the Premier League in 2019/20.
