Chelsea hero Cole Palmer leads Premier League March best XI

 

With March behind us, we’ve taken a look at the month’s standout performers in the Premier League. Included in our Team of the Month are players from Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Bournemouth, Fulham, Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham. 

 

Andre Onana (Manchester United) - 7.64 

 

Manchester United may have only won one of their three league matches in March, but goalkeeper Andre Onana earns a place between the sticks in our best XI having performed strongly in each game. Across fixtures against Manchester City, Everton and Brentford, the Cameroon international made 15 saves and 12 high claims to earn a WhoScored rating of 7.64 for the month as a whole. 

 

Ben White (Arsenal) - 7.62 

 

Title-chasing Arsenal kept two clean sheets across their three league matches in March, and crucial to the Gunners’ defensive effort has been Ben White. The 26-year-old, who has impressed all season, scored in the victory over Sheffield United before providing assists for both of his side’s goals in the 2-1 win at home to Brentford. 

 

Cristian Romero (Tottenham) - 7.39 

 

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero continued his good form this season into March, scoring in the 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace at the beginning of the month before turning in a strong display against Aston Villa. The Argentina international won 17 aerial duels, made six tackles, seven interceptions and nine clearances over the course of the month to return a WhoScored rating of 7.39. 

 

Chris Mepham (Bournemouth) - 7.17 

 

Welsh centre-back Chris Mepham stepped in for the injured Marcos Senesi at the beginning of March and helped the Cherries to three victories and one draw throughout the month. The 26-year-old provided only his second-ever Premier League assist in the dramatic win against Luton, while he also made eight tackles, three interceptions, 18 clearances and a whopping 25 aerial wins. 

 

Antonee Robinson (Fulham) - 7.20 

 

Antonee Robinson’s fine season for Fulham continued into March as he helped the Whites to victories against Brighton and Tottenham. The USA international provided his sixth assist of the season in the latter fixture, while across the month he also made 11 tackles, five interceptions and six successful dribbles for a WhoScored rating of 7.20. 

 

Cole Palmer (Chelsea) - 8.51 

 

With an average WhoScored rating of 8.51, Chelsea star Cole Palmer is our Premier League Player of the Month for March. The 21-year-old was directly involved in five goals in three matches (3 goals, 2 assists), to take his tally of contributions to 21 so far this term. Palmer, who is the Blues’ highest rated player this season by some distance, also made 10 key passes and seven successful dribbles across the three games.

Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool) - 7.65 

 

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister made it five successive Premier League matches with a goal involvement when he provided an assist in the Reds’ 2-1 victory over Brighton on Sunday. The Argentine, who now has three goals and five assists in the league this season, also made eight tackles, four interceptions and 11 key passes for a WhoScored rating of 7.65. 

 

Declan Rice (Arsenal) - 7.76 

 

England international midfielder Declan Rice continued his exceptional season with three impactful performances in March. The 25-year-old scored in wins over Sheffield United and Brentford, before putting in a fine midfield display in a 0-0 draw with fellow title-chasing side Manchester City. In all, Rice made six tackles, three key passes and two successful dribbles to return an overall WhoScored rating of 7.76. 

 

Mohammed Kudus (West Ham) - 7.64 

 

West Ham star Mohammed Kudus capped off a fine March with a stunning display against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon. The Ghanaian’s goal and assist at St James’ Park brought his tally of goal involvements in the Premier League this season to 11, while across the month, he also made eight tackles, seven key passes and 17 successful dribbles to land an average WhoScored rating of 7.64. 

 

Rodrigo Muniz (Fulham) - 7.91 

 

Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz continued his red-hot form in front of goal with four goals in four games in March. The 22-year-old Brazilian, who scored his first goal of the season as recently as early February, helped the Craven Cottage side to a victory over Tottenham with a brace, while he also scored in the win against Brighton and draw with Sheffield United. 

 

Son Heung-Min (Tottenham) - 8.12 

 

Rounding off our Team of the Month for March is Tottenham attacker Son Heung-Min, who was directly involved in five of his side’s nine goals across their four matches. Son found the net in each of Spurs’ wins in March - against Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Luton - while he also provided two assists in the Villa Park thrashing. To go with his goal contributions, the Tottenham captain also made seven key passes and eight successful dribbles to take home a WhoScored rating of 8.12.
