Manchester United 1-1 Chelsea player ratings: De Gea disaster hands Chelsea point
After a fast start from Manchester United, it was Chelsea that came away from Old Trafford the happier of the two sides with a point following a helping hand from a hapless David de Gea.
We explain our player ratings in full from Sunday’s scrap for a Champions League finish.
MANCHESTER UNITED - 6.52
David de Gea - 5.45: Another costly error that may well have ended United’s hopes of a top four finish. Nervy with the ball at his feet as his nightmare run continues.
Ashley Young - 6.89: His duel with Hazard looked likely to be crucial and Young fared well in the most part, whilst keeping possession when he did have the ball.
Eric Bailly - 6.85: Went off with what looks a serious injury having defended well beforehand and come close to scoring in the first half.
Victor Lindelof - 6.37: Had relatively little to do but kept the ball well, completing 96 per cent of his passes.
Luke Shaw - 7.10: Supported attacks well all game, registering a good assist for the opening goal and had a quiet evening’s work defensively.
Ander Herrera - 6.18: Solidified United’s midfield in the first half, breaking up play both legally and illegally but faded after the break.
Nemanja Matic - 7.03: Looked far sharper, particularly in possession, but could consider himself a little fortunate for getting away with an arm into the face of Azpilicueta.
Paul Pogba - 6.49: Some typical flashes of brilliance but generally in comfortable positions as far as Chelsea were concerned. Dispossessed too often as the game wore on.
Juan Mata - 6.89: A reliable goalscorer, taking his birthday strike well, but the years are catching up on the Spaniard who can rarely perform at his best for an entire game.
Romelu Lukaku - 6.43: Unquestionable work rate from the Belgian but he remains severely lacking match fitness. Could have scored early on but played a super role in United’s goal.
Marcus Rashford - 6.76: Started well after a disappointing run of form but didn’t look fit as the game wore on and posed very little threat in front of goal.
Subs: Alexis Sanchez (6.22), Marcus Rojo (6.39), Scott McTominay (6.22)
CHELSEA - 6.75
Kepa Arrizabalaga - 6.66: Looked assured where his compatriot and opposite number did not but was relatively untested in truth.
Cesar Azpilicueta - 7.10: A shaky start but improved in the second half and produced the most tackles on the pitch, with four.
Antonio Rudiger - 6.36: Like most of the Chelsea backline he looked lost early on but his decent shot did force Chelsea’s equaliser before being withdrawn through injury.
David Luiz - 6.44: Dealt with any aerial threat well after a poor start to the game and looked comfortable after the break.
Marcos Alonso - 7.75: A much improved performance in and out of possession from the Spaniard, who took his goal extremely well with a cute finish from a tight angle.

N’Golo Kante - 6.68: Busy without having the influence that he really should be on this side, with some wasteful passes on occasion.
Jorginho - 6.86: Defensively the Italian has improved in recent times and five interceptions was the most of any player but couldn’t dictate the play with his passing.
Mateo Kovacic - 7.27: A hard-working performance with and without the ball, completing four dribbles, three tackles and 93 per cent of his passes. A little lucky to get away with a foul on Herrera having already been booked.
Willian - 6.30: An ineffective display in the most part before being forced off late on following a bad tackle from Rojo.
Gonzalo Higuain - 6.08: Cut a frustrated figure all game but didn’t help himself with loose touches when he did get the ball and was caught offside five times, often through laziness.
Eden Hazard - 7.75: Looked the biggest threat on the pitch once Chelsea grew into the game without being close to his best. Completed six dribbles and created two chances.
Subs: Andreas Christensen (6.07), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (6.17), Pedro (7.06)
