Form Guide: Aguero takes third spot off Messi in European form rankings
Sergio Agüero has jumped into top three players in Europe’s top five leagues based on form over his last six appearances, leapfrogging compatriot Lionel Messi in the process.
The Manchester City star may have failed to score against Chelsea at the weekend but was on form in the week against Arsenal to see his rating rise from last week’s leaderboard.
Messi, meanwhile, may have been the match winner in the huge game at the top of La Liga at the weekend, scoring for the third game running in Spain’s top-flight, but the three games without a goal beforehand have taken effect with regards to his form over the last six and seen him drop out of the top three in the process.
Elsewhere there are two newcomers into the top ten from this time last week, with Florian Thauvin up five places into seventh having returned to the scoresheet against Nantes, while Lorenzo Insigne is up 13 into eighth after a goal and assist against Roma. They replace Luis Suarez - who has fallen a whopping 69 places after two mediocre displays - and Casemiro, who has dropped to 20th.
Liverpool’s Emre Can joins teammate Mo Salah on the leaderboard, while Chris Smalling also climbs significantly have set Manchester United on their way to a victory from two goals behind at Palace on Monday night.
The only player to jump more places into the top 20 is Monaco’s Djibril Sidibe, who registered a crucial assist against Bordeaux - a third in his last five Ligue 1 appearances from full-back.
