In the first of many articles WhoScored.com will produce in association with Football INDEX, we will highlight the five biggest market movers over the last 24 hours, a handy feature available on the home page of Football INDEX.
1. FEDERICO CHIESA (FIORENTINA)
Rated as one of the most exciting prospects in Italian football, there has been a 18.41% increase in shares bought in Fiorentina starlet Federico Chiesa in the last 24 hours. The 20-year-old scored his fourth league goal of the season at the weekend, but a tough run of fixtures lay ahead for the Viola and you should proceed with caution if you are thinking about backing the Italy U21 international.
Fiorentina, who have struggled for consistency all season, have five matches against teams in the top-10 in Serie A to come in their next seven outings. With that in mind, Chiesa will do well to live up to the expectations of those who have heavily backed the Fiorentina attacker in the last 24 hours.
2. LUIS MURIEL (SEVILLA)
In the last 24 hours, there has been a 16.13% spike in shares bought in Sevilla club-record signing Luis Muriel on Football INDEX. The 26-year-old has made an underwhelming start to the season since his reported €20m switch over the summer but represents good value at £0.52 a share.
However, Sevilla only have four fixtures left in 2017 before their winter break and it's unlikely he will be afforded much game time given the form of Wissam Ben Yedder. However, if you are prepared to play the long-term then Muriel could prove a wise investment given how low his share price is at the moment.
3. KEPA (ATHLETIC CLUB)
With the January transfer window approaching, now is the time to strategically buy shares in players that could be on the move. Athletic Club goalkeeper Kepa has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in either of the next two windows, which would explain why there has been a 14.64% spike in shares purchased in the 23-year-old over the last 24 hours.
But, you have to consider whether Madrid would sign the 23-year-old in January and immediately demote Keylor Navas? That seems unlikely, particuarly as Zinedine Zidane rallied to keep the Costa Rican over the summer. However, at £0.51 a share, Kepa could still prove a wise short-term investment, particuarly as these reports will only intensify over the coming weeks.
4. JAKUB JANKTO (UDINESE)
Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto has been heavily linked with a January move to Arsenal in recent weeks and the 21-year-old did himself no harm on Monday night after grabbing a brace in Udinese’s 3-0 win away to Crotone. It means the Czech Republic international has scored three goals in his last two appearances and a game against Benevento up next represents another golden opportunity to cash in on his good run of form.
Benevento have only managed one point from their first 15 league games this season and, valued at £0.97 per share, Jankto offers an intriguing short-term option. If you believe he will make a high-profile move in the New Year, you may even look to hold on to his shares and hope he comes big in the second half of the season.
5. STEVEN N'ZONZI (SEVILLA)
There has been a lot of speculation about Steven N'Zonzi's future at Sevilla and it does seem likely he will be on the move in January after reportedly falling out with the Spanish club. A return to the Premier League has been mooted, while Juventus have also been linked with the Frenchman's signature.
The fact that N'Zonzi has not featured in Sevilla's last three matches would certainly explain why there has been a 11.86% increase in shares bought in the 28-year-old over the 24 hours. The Sevilla midfielder will set you back £0.94 a share but that price could soar if he seals a move in the New Year, particularly to a side like Everton.
How are footballer prices calculated and when are they updated?
@6seconds if you’re on Twitter drop me a direct message @footyindexLDN and I’ll be able to answer any questions. Players prices go up and down based on demand. If lots of people buy, price goes up, if lots of people sell, price goes down. Using Jakub Jankto as an example, he was 80p a few days ago, he’s nearly £1 now after a good performance on Monday and transfer rumours linking him to Arsenal.
