Four Premier League stars make Europe’s best XI for August

 

 

The first month of the season is complete and as we pause for the International break, we take a look at the top performing XI from Europe’s top five leagues in August.

 

Yvon Mvogo (Lorient) – 7.85 

 

Only Nice (2) and PSG (3) conceded fewer goals than Lorient in Ligue 1 and as a result, Yvon Mvogo is the goalkeeper of the month across Europe’s top five leagues with a rating of 7.85. The Swiss stopper made a total of 17 saves in August, a total which only Bernd Leno could better.

 

Cristian Romero (Tottenham) – 7.47

 

Ange Postecoglu has started his rein at Tottenham positively, and it all started when Romero scored the first league goal of Spurs’ Premier League campaign. The 25-year-old was solid at the back throughout the month having made 10 tackles and interceptions combined, and 10 clearances, all contributing to a WhoScored rating of 7.47. 

 

Chancel Mbemba (Marseille) – 7.46

 

Marseille went unbeaten in Ligue 1 throughout August, conceding just the three goals, and a key contributor to the success was Chancel Mbemba. His performance in the 2-0 victory over Brest was the standout in a strong month for the 29-year-old and with a WhoScored.com rating of 7.46 he is worthy of his inclusion in Europe’s best XI.

 

Joachim Andersen (Crystal Palace) – 8.07

 

Only Manchester City (1) conceded fewer goals than Crystal Palace (2) in the Premier League last month, with Joachim Andersen the rock at the back for Hodgson’s side. Only Thiago Silva and teammate Jefferson Lerma (14) won more aerial duels than Andersen (13) in August, while 16 clearances ranked fifth to help land a WhoScored rating of 8.07.

 

Solly March (Brighton) – 7.97

 

Solly March has certainly continued his form from last season with a WhoScored rating of 7.97 in August. March netted three league goals in the month - no player scored more - and made 11 tackles and interceptions combined as he once again excelled for Brighton.

 

Rodri (Manchester City) – 8.30

 

August was another month to remember for the City midfielder who is the second highest rated player in Europe in the month as well as the highest rated from the Premier League, with a rating of 8.30. It was the perfect month for Man City winning all three of their fixtures in which Rodri chipped in with two goals and also lead the league for possession won in the midfield third (21). 

 

Four Premier League stars make Europe’s best XI for August

 

 

Laurent Abergel (Lorient) – 7.95

 

The second Lorient player to feature in Europe’s best XI in August is Laurent Abergel. The 30-year-old was awarded a WhoScored.com rating of 7.95 thanks to two Player of the Match performances against PSG and Lille, where he scored and provided an assist on his way to a 9.06 rated showing.

 

Mousa Tamari (Montpellier) – 8.00

 

Montpellier’s Mousa Tamari found the net three times in August, with only Wissam Ben Yedder (4) scoring more goals than the 26-year-old in the month. His best performance of the month, and of the season so far, came against Lyon where Montpellier hit four on the road and left with all three points. Tamari’s two goals, four dribbles and one key pass saw him land the Player of the Match award on that occasion. 

 

Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) – 8.53 

 

Jude Bellingham is the WhoScored.com player of the month across Europe’s top five leagues. The Englishman has started life in La Liga in the best fashion possible since his move from Dortmund getting himself on the scoresheet in all three of Real’s opening three fixtures. With a WhoScored.com rating of 8.53 Jude Bellingham is August’s standout performer.

 

Takumi Minamino (Monaco) – 8.09

 

Monaco’s Takumi Minamino contributed five goals in August with three goals and two assists. He ranks top for goal contributions in the month in Ligue 1 and with a WhoScored.com rating of 8.09 is deservedly included here.

 

Wissam Ben Yedder (Monaco) – 7.99

 

The second player from Monaco to be included in Europe’s team of the Month for August is Wissam Ben Yedder. The Monaco forward was Ligue 1’s top scorer in August with four goals and with a WhoScored.com rating he leads the line for Europe’s top rated XI.
