Villa hitman leapfrogs Man City and Arsenal pair to top of form rankings

Aston Villa and Manchester City are the two main teams on the form standings with three players apiece following key wins over Newcastle and Leicester, respectively, last weekend. Arsenal, Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Brighton are also represented as we run through the top 10.

10. Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 7.42

Back in the Premier League form rankings after yet another two-goal salvo, Erling Haaland's rating is a solid 7.42. A brace in the first half against Leicester last weekend took him to 32 league goals for the season, just two off the record for the most goals scored in a Premier League season, to help rise to 10th on the leaderboard.

9. Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) - 7.44

Rising one spot to ninth after yet another clean sheet, his seventh of 2023, Emiliano Martinez boasts an impressive form rating of 7.44. The Argentine put in a solid shift against Newcastle last weekend to move up one spot in the standings. Up against Brentford this weekend, Martinez will need to be at his best to keep Ivan Toney and co. at bay, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see him move up the rankings once more.

8. Michael Olise (Crystal Palace) - 7.56

Michael Olise was unable to add to his eight league assists at Southampton last weekend, and drops one spot on the form standings as a result. Nevertheless, a solid performance at St. Mary's knocked a poor showing against Aston Villa out of contention, which means the Crystal Palace star's form rating remains an impressive 7.56.

7. Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 7.64

Moving up to seventh on the form standings, Trent Alexander-Arnold has looked back to his best in recent weeks following a role change in the Liverpool XI. Indeed, Alexander-Arnold may start at right-back, but has so often drifted into midfield to aid the Reds on the front foot, and with two of his five best rated displays coming in recent meetings with Arsenal and Leeds, the Liverpool star has returned a WhoScored form rating of 7.64.

6. Jacob Ramsey (Aston Villa) - 7.76

The second of three Aston Villa players to make the leaderboard, Jacob Ramsey has become a key man under Unai Emery. The 21-year-old has been directly involved in a league goal in four of his last five appearances, scoring twice and registering three assists in that run. While Ollie Watkins has been the focus of attention, Ramsey's excellent showings have also been key, and this is reflected in a WhoScored form rating of 7.76.

5. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) - 7.78

Having returned to the form standings last week, Kevin De Bruyne keeps his place on the leaderboard, but drops to fifth. The Belgian registered his 15th league assist of the campaign in the 3-1 win over Leicester, but a lower WhoScored rating in the win over the Foxes knocked a better rated display against Arsenal out of contention. Nevertheless, a WhoScored form rating of 7.78 is still notable.

4. Solly March (Brighton) - 7.82

One of two non-movers in the top 10, Solly March kept his place in fourth having registered his seventh assist of the season in Brighton's 2-1 win at Chelsea last week. March has never really left the top five in the form standings in 2023, and he should keep his place here with the Seagulls not in action this weekend owing to FA Cup duties.

3. Gabriel Martinelli (Arsenal) - 7.93

Having sat top of the form standings last week, Arsenal's Gabriel Martinelli has dropped to third. The Brazilian may have earned the WhoScored man of the match award 2-2 draw with West Ham last week as he provided his fifth league assist of the season, but the showing against the Hammers pushed the performance against Everton, his second best rated display of the season, out of contention.

2. Jack Grealish Manchester City) - 8.01

Another non-mover, one day Jack Grealish will head into a weekend's Premier League action as the division's form player, but for now; the Manchester City star has to make do with second spot once more. Grealish endured a form rating drop of 0.04 from last week, though his rating is still a superb 8.01.

1. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa) - 8.18

It was only a matter of time before Ollie Watkins surged to the top of the WhoScored form rankings given his superb showings under Unai Emery. Watkins has now been directly involved in more goals (14) than any other Premier League player in 2023 having scored twice and provided an assist against Newcastle, and with the Villans star in rampant goalscoring form, the 27-year-old's form rating is a fine 8.18.
