Transfer live blog - January 10th: Liverpool eye new centre-back, while City keen on West Ham teen

Here we run through the latest rumours and round-up the possible movers dominating today’s gossip columns, with additional information about Football INDEX share prices.

Manchester City identify Fernandinho’s long-term replacement

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes West Ham starlet Declan Rice is the player to succeed Fernandinho going forward.

Fernandinho turns 34 before the end of the season and Guardiola wants to sign his long-term replacement once and for all in the summer.

After missing out on Fred and Jorginho last summer, the City manager appears to have set his sights on Rice after conceding defeat in pursuit of Ajax wonderkid Frenkie de Jong.

Rice only signed a new long-term deal with West Ham last month but that hasn’t put Guardiola off the 19-year-old.

Of teenagers to have featured in Europe’s top five leagues this season, Rice has made the most tackles (44).

His Football INDEX share price has increased 10.11% in the last 24 hours as a result of City’s reported interest and he is certainly worth monitoring, as a high profile move seems a foregone conclusion at one point in his career.

Southampton outcast heading to Italy

Manolo Gabbadini is heading back to Serie A after just two years at Southampton.

After making a sensational start to life at Southampton, the Italy international has fallen out of favour at the south coast club.

Gabbadini came off the bench in Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first game in charge of Southampton but hasn’t made any of the manager’s matchday squads since.

The 27-year-old is now poised to re-sign for former club Sampdoria in a deal worth more than £10m, finishing his time at Southampton with just 10 goals in 51 league games.

Gabbadini’s Football INDEX share price is £0.87 and has increased 10.22% in the last seven days of trading but should not be considered any longer.

Liverpool plot shock move for England international

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is reportedly keen to bolster his defensive options by signing Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski this month.

Klopp will be forced to play Fabinho out of position at the heart of Liverpool’s defence this weekend due to injuries to Joe Gomez, Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip.

In order to prevent Liverpool’s title challenge collapsing, Klopp is reportedly planning to dip into the transfer market.

While it makes sense on paper, a deal for Tarkowski is surely unlikely. With Gomez and Matip due back before the end of the month, is Klopp really willing to match Burnley’s £50m fee for a defender that will more than likely become third choice at best when everyone is available?

His Football INDEX share price has rocketed 33.09% in the last 24 hours of trading but you should steer clear of the defender if you have already missed out on the initial buzz. The transfer seems unlikely.

Ramsey agrees five-year deal with Juventus?

Reports emerged on Wednesday night suggesting Aaron Ramsey has agreed a five-year deal with Juventus and will undergo his medical with the Serie A giants on Sunday.

However, those now appear to be premature, though it’s true Ramsey has received a huge offer from the Old Lady.

Ramsey is still in no rush to make a decision on his future and plans to speak to other clubs around Europe to listen to what they have to offer.

The Wales international is out of contract at the end of the season and is in a strong position to command huge wages and a signing-on fee.

Only eight of his 18 league appearances this season have come as starts but he has still played a direct hand in eight goals in that time.

Ramsey’s Football INDEX share price has declined 11.79% in the last seven days of trading but has shown signs of life in the last 24 hours, rising 3.83%. His share price is currently £3.23 but should not be touched at this moment in time.

Atletico Madrid interested in Alvaro Morata

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is pondering a shock move for Chelsea outcast Alvaro Morata.

The Spain international is free to leave Chelsea this month if Maurizio Sarri’s side are successful in their pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain.

Morata has already been linked with a move to Sevilla this month but the Spanish side have reluctantly pulled out of a deal due to the finances required to complete a deal.

Morata working under Simeone seems an unlikely partnership, given there have been question marks about the former’s mental fortitude throughout his career.

Only Harry Kane (8) has scored more headed goals than Morata (7) in the Premier League since the 26-year-old moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2017.

Morata’s Football INDEX share price has only increased gradually over the last seven days of trading (4.72%), which suggests there isn’t much money to be paid on the striker.
