The Best Bet: Back Lukaku to continue excellent Belgium form against Japan

Romelu Lukaku’s international record speaks for itself. 40 goals in 71 Belgium appearances is a fine return for the striker. Even if he may have gained the flat track bully tag, the 25-year-old is exceptional for the Red Devils.

At the time of writing, only Harry Kane (5) has scored more World Cup goals than Lukaku (4), with the Belgian forward requiring just five shots to score those four goals against Panama and Tunisia. Against Japan today, he’ll look to add to his fine international goalscoring record and prolong a run of 17 goals in his last 11 Belgium appearances, one of which was actually against the Samurai Blue.

He’s widely expected to shine once more as Belgium pursue a last-16 spot at Japan’s expense today. Lukaku may have missed the 1-0 win over England as Roberto Martinez made sweeping changes to his side for the Group G finale, yet the Manchester United is set to return to the fold today.

Even then, Lukaku’s odds of scoring are hugely favourable. The Belgian forward to score anytime is at tantalising 2.00 with Smarkets and SpreadEx against Japan, which given his fine form in the final third in Russia so far, and on the international stage as a whole, is well worth backing. He’ll be the focal point of the Belgium attack once again and to back him to score anytime against Japan is an opportunity you shouldn’t pass up.
