Unstoppable Inter dominate Serie A Team of the Season so far

Runaway leaders Inter dominate the Serie A team of the season so far, with five players making the cut. Monza, Torino, Juventus, Napoli and Roma are also represented in an XI of those to have made at least 20 appearances this season.

Michele Di Gregorio (Monza) - 7.07

While clean sheet machine Yann Sommer would perhaps be first choice for a number of selectors, Monza's Michele Di Gregorio has been one of the busiest goalkeepers in Serie A this season. Indeed, the 26-year-old ranks second for saves (93) and boasts the fourth best save success rate (75.2%). 11 clean sheets is also the fourth most to help the Italian to a WhoScored rating of 7.07.

Raoul Bellanova (Torino) - 6.82

The first of two Torino players, only Federico Dimarco (6) has registered more assists than Raoul Bellanova (5) of defenders in Italy's top tier this term. The 23-year-old, who is backed to win his first Italy cap this month, is also completing a modest 1.4 dribbles per 90 this season.

Alessandro Buongiorno (Torino) - 7.23

The second Torino star to make the cut, Il Toro boast the fourth best defensive record in Serie A this season having shipped just 26 goals. Alessandro Buongiorno has been key to their defensive resolve having made more interceptions (50) than any other player in the division, this contributing towards a WhoScored rating of 7.23.

Alessandro Bastoni (Inter) - 7.18

Partnering Buongiorno at the heart of the defence is Inter star Alessandro Bastoni. Renowned for his desire to get forward, Bastoni has created the third most clear-cut goalscoring chances (10) in Serie A this season. Factor in his impressive distribution - 118 accurate long balls is fourth of all outfield players - and the Inter centre-back is good value for his inclusion with a WhoScored rating of 7.18.

Federico Dimarco (Inter) - 7.17

One of those to have created more clear-cut goalscoring chances than Bastoni is Inter teammate Federico Dimarco. The Italian left-back has created 12 this season, the second most in Serie A, while six assists is more than any other defender. Inter have conceded fewer goals (14) than any other team in the division with Dimarco vital in their resolute backline.

Paulo Dybala (Roma) - 7.30

Paulo Dybala is one of a number of Roma players to have upped their game following the appointment of Daniele De Rossi earlier in the year. The Argentine has been given a new lease of life by the former Roma midfielder and now has 12 goals and seven assists to his name, marking his best Serie A campaign since 2017/18.

Adrien Rabiot (Juventus) - 7.17

Having been linked with a move away from Juventus last year, Adrien Rabiot put pen to paper on a new deal with the Turin side last summer and has repaid the faith shown in him with a solid season to date. A WhoScored rating of 7.17 is enough to make the best XI of 2023/24 so far with the Frenchman a consistent performer in the middle of the park for the Old Lady.

Hakan Calhanoglu (Inter) - 7.41

The third Inter player in the side partners Rabiot in the middle of the park. Hakan Calhanoglu has been directly involved in 12 goals for league leaders Inter, scoring nine, though he should perhaps have had more assists to his name. Only Albert Gudmundsson (42) has made more key passes from set-piece situations than Calhanoglu (29) in Italy's top tier this term to help justify his selection.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (Napoli) - 7.51

Featuring on the left in the team of the season so far is Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian winger is two goals off matching his total haul from 2022/23 (12), with his 10 goals coming from 101 shots, more than any other player. The 23-year-old also ranks second for dribbles (74) and sixth for key passes (50) to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.51.

Lautaro Martinez (Inter) - 7.68

With a WhoScored rating of 7.68, Inter forward Lautaro Martinez is the best rated player in Serie A this season. The Argentina international has scored more goals (23) than any other player and has won possession in the attacking third 26 times, that the most in the division. It's been a campaign to remember for Martinez so far.

Marcus Thuram (Inter) - 7.30

Linking up with Martinez on the frontline is Inter teammate Marcus Thuram. Having joined from Gladbach on a free last summer, the Frenchman has slotted in seamlessly in Milan having scored 10 and providing seven assists. Four of those seven assists have been for Martinez to score, with the pair quickly striking up a fine partnership.
