Chelsea's Mason Mount joined by Mbappe and Felix in U21 Team of the Month
Having already revealed the top performers from Europe's top five leagues over the month of September, it's time to give the best youngsters their props.
Players aged 21 and under as of the start of the season are eligible and they must have made at least two appearances last month to be eligible for this best rated XI. Let's dive straight in...
Goalkeeper: Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan) - 7.18 rating
AC Milan have started the new Serie A season with back-to-back wins without conceding. Gianluigi Donnarumma made four saves across wins over Bologna and Crotone, not putting a foot wrong in either appearance, to make the XI as the outstanding goalkeeping talent.
Right-back: Achraf Hakimi (Inter) - 7.87 rating
Ex-Real Madrid full-back Achraf Hakimi has unsurprisingly made a superb start to life at Inter, playing a direct hand in three goals in his first 116 minutes of league action. Hakimi has notably set up Romelu Lukaku for both of his assists and against Benevento in midweek he scored his first goal for the club.
Centre-back: Sven Botman (Lille) - 7.44 rating
Lille lost Gabriel to Arsenal in the summer but hope they have landed another talented youngster in Sven Botman. The 20-year-old has made a solid start to life in France and helped Lille avoid defeat in his three appearances in September. Lille won two of those fixtures and didn't concede in either game. Botman won at least four aerial duels in all three games and also averaged 5.6 clearances pg.
Centre-back: Ibanez (Roma) - 7.20 rating
Roma are still waiting for their first win this season but have at least taken a point from champions Juventus. While Roma continue to wait for Chris Smalling to return, 21-year-old Ibanez has taken full advantage to start Roma's first two games. He has emerged as their best rated centre-back during the early stages thanks to 4.5 aerials won pg and 4 clearances pg.
Left-back: Yvann Macon (Saint-Etienne) - 7.51 rating
Saint-Etienne ended September with defeat but it was an otherwise encouraging month for Claude Puel's side. Yvann Macon, who turned 22 yesterday, has enjoyed a superb start to the season. The left-back registered an assist in their 2-0 win away to Marseille and followed that up with his first senior goal in a 2-2 draw with Nantes in their next game. Moreover, Macon remarkably averaged 5.5 tackles pg in September.
Right wing: Silas Wamangituka (Stuttgart) - 7.96 rating
Silas Wamangituka has made the perfect start to his first top-flight campaign with two goals and one assist in Stuttgart's opening two games following promotion last term. The 20-year-old scored in their opening 3-2 defeat to Freiburg before scoring and assisting in a 4-1 win at Mainz. Not only decisive in attack, the youngster also averaged 2.5 tackles pg over his two appearances last month.
Central midfield: Matheus Cunha (Hertha Berlin) - 8.00 rating
Matheus Cunha was the star of the show for Hertha Berlin as they racked up a 4-1 win away to Werder Bremen on the opening weekend. Things didn't fare too well in their second game but the 21-year-old Brazilian so far averages 4 dribbles pg, 2.5 interceptions pg, 2 tackles pg and 3 shots pg.
Central midfield: Mason Mount (Chelsea) - 7.41 rating
Chelsea may have spent in the region of £250m on new players this summer but academy graduate Mason Mount has arguably been their best player so far this season. Mount scored once in three league games last month, while averaging 2.3 tackles pg, 3 shots pg, 2 dribbles pg and as many key passes pg.
Left wing: Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) - 8.45 rating
As Ansu Fati only made one appearance in September, Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe takes the left wing berth. Mbappe's return to fitness was a massive boost for PSG last month after their horrendous start to the season. The 21-year-old played a direct hand in three goals in his two appearances, as PSG won convincingly away to Nice and Reims without conceding.
Striker: Ignatius Ganago (Lens) - 7.98 rating
Ignatius Ganago has been a revelation for newly promoted Lens so far this season and scored in all four of his appearances in September, netting five goals in the process. Not only that, but the 21-year-old averaged 3 dribbles pg and won 11 fouls across September's Ligue 1 action.
Striker: Joao Felix (Atletico Madrid) - 8.47 rating
Joao Felix started the 2020/21 campaign with his best ever WhoScored rating in a LaLiga match for Atletico after scoring and assisting in their 6-1 win over Granada. Atletico's club-record signing endured a maiden season to forget but Diego Simeone will hope he will now kick on. New signing Luis Suarez already seems to have a good relationship on pitch with the 20-year-old.
