There are only two weeks until the 2018/19 Premier League kicks off and the WhoScored Expert has picked out five names that are primed for big campaigns for their respective campaigns.
1. LUCAS TORREIRA (ARSENAL)
Arsenal have made five signings so far this summer under new manager Unai Emery but Lucas Torreira is the biggest name of the bunch. The Gunners shelled out £22m to sign the Uruguayan midfielder from Sampdoria after the conclusion of the 2018 World Cup.
Torreira has been recruited to solve a problem position at the base of Arsenal’s midfield and Emery will hope the pint-sized midfielder can provide the necessary bite that the north London outfit have lacked in recent years.
Arsenal supporters would have got a good glimpse of Torreira during the World Cup in Russia after the 22-year-old made three starts and two further appearances from the substitute bench for Uruguay before moving to England.
Torreira won possession the middle third more times than any other player in Serie A over the last two seasons (317) and Emery will expect more of the same at Arsenal. Not only that, but he also weighed in with four league goals last term.
His Football INDEX share price is £2.22 but that will surely increase further if he beds in quickly and impresses for the Gunners next season.
2. JEAN SERI (FULHAM)
Linked with a summer move for Chelsea after coming agonisingly close to joining Barcelona 12 months ago, Jean Seri remarkably ended up joining Fulham earlier this month.
The newly promoted Premier League side have pulled off one of the coups of the summer, beating their west London rivals to one of the best central midfielders in France.
Seri has been tremendous for Nice in the last two seasons, although his performance level dipped last term after failing to secure a high-profile move away, notably with Barcelona pulling the plug on a deal at the eleventh hour.
Fulham broke their club transfer record to land Seri from Nice for a fee in the region of £25m but the Cottagers stand to make much more than that if the Ivory Coast international hits the ground running as expected this season.
In Ligue 1 last season, only Marco Verratti (92.7) averaged more passes per game than Seri (86.3), while his Football INDEX share price of £1.54 looks a steal on the eve of the new campaign.
3. JOAO MOUTINHO (WOLVES)
The pulling power of the Premier League and the financial riches on over from all clubs has made transfers like Joao Moutinho to Wolves possible. The newly promoted side paid Monaco in the region of £5m for the Portugal international and it looks a shrewd investment from Nuno’s side.
Moutinho will add guile and experience to Wolves’ midfield, while also bolstering the Portuguese core to Wolves’ squad. The 31-year-old lifted the European Championships with Portugal in 2016 and will be exciting to watch at the Molineux.
Despite coming towards the end of his career, Moutinho still managed 33 league appearances for Monaco last season and weighed in with six assists and one goal in that time. A midfield axis of Ruben Neves and Moutinho will be thoroughly enjoyable for Wolves supporters next term.
His Football INDEX share price is only £0.97, which reflects a great price for anyone looking for players to add to their portfolios before the start of the season.
4. ALEXIS SANCHEZ (MANCHESTER UNITED)
After completing a shock move from Arsenal in January, Alexis Sanchez endured a difficult settling in period at Manchester United during the second half of last season. More was expected of the Chile international at Old Trafford but that isn't to suggest it won't come this term.
The 29-year-old should, however, be fit and firing on all cylinders for the 2018/19 campaign and his early showings in pre-season suggests that will be the case for Jose Mourinho’s side.
Chile’s failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup meant Sanchez was given his first summer free of international football for the first time in nine-years and United should really benefit from that during his first full campaign at the club.
Sanchez netted the only goal in regular time during United’s pre-season victory over AC Milan and has generally looked very sharp, despite joining up late to the US tour after administrative issues.
His Football INDEX share price has rocketed more than 11% in the last seven days of trading as a result, reflecting the optimism among fans following his pre-season performances.
5. MARKO ARNAUTOVIC (WEST HAM)
West Ham have been one of the most pro-active sides in this summer’s transfer market, making several exciting additions. Felipe Anderson, Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko have been signed to bolster their offensive options, while highly rated defender Issa Diop should improve things at the back.
West Ham's start to life under Manuel Pellegrini has gone well but it has been easy to forget the star of last season, Mark Arnautovic. The Austria international carried West Ham’s attack at times during the second half of last season and did so superbly.
The 29-year-old scored 11 goals and provided six assists for the Hammers and the arrival of Anderson and Yarmolenko should certainly ease the goalscoring burden on his shoulders.
With that in mind, Arnautovic should have the time and space to be even more influential in attack. Instead of cutting an isolated figure in attack, Arnautovic should have plenty of service and team-mates around him to really kick on this term.
His Football INDEX share price is only £1.50 and that should steadily increase over the course of the season, if West Ham enjoy the season expected of them following their summer dealings.
