Championship round-up: Leeds dominate team of the week after Preston win
Leeds maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 win over Preston on Tuesday and their impressive display at Elland Road means they have no fewer than five players in the Championship team of the week. With a WhoScored rating of 8.96, young striker Tyler Roberts was the pick of the bunch of all Leeds players.
The teenager deputised impressively for Kemar Roofe in the final third as he bagged a brace on just his second league start of the season to ensure Leeds ended the gameweek at the top of the table. However, as far as individual performances go, Roberts’ was the third best in the midweek round of fixtures.
QPR centre-back and compatriot Joel Lynch was one of those to earn a better WhoScored rating than Roberts, with the defender gaining a 9.07 following a solid display in a 2-0 win over Millwall. The proactive 30-year-old made 17 clearances and two interceptions at Loftus Road on Wednesday night as QPR continue to turn their fortunes around following a slow start to the season.
Top of the pile this week for the best rated players is on loan West Brom attacker Harvey Barnes. The 20-year-old was exceptional in the Baggies’ 4-2 win over Bristol City as he scored two and assisted one, those coming from returns of three shots and four key passes, respectively. An additional three successful dribbles and one tackle saw Barnes gain a WhoScored rating of 9.47, that better than any other player in gameweek eight.
At the other end of the scale, experienced Bolton midfielder Gary O’Neil earned the lowest WhoScored rating of the week, gaining just a 5.25 for a disappointing performance in the Trotters’ 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough. The 35-year-old committed an error leading to George Saville’s opening goal at the Riverside Stadium as he failed to make an interception, committed a foul and failed to make a positive impact on the game.
