Yahoo! Fantasy Football: Manchester United ace dominates opening Premier League fixtures

Here, we run down the top performers from the opening weekend and whether they are good enough to come into contention for your fantasy football teams in gameweek 2.

Goalkeepers

Jordan Pickford – Points Earned 11.5

Ben Foster – Points Earned 13

Ederson – (Manchester City - Points Earned 13)

Ederson was arguably one of Manchester City's best performers in pre-season and the second most expensive goalkeeper of all-time followed that up with a clean sheet on his Premier League bow. However, City have only kept one clean sheet in their last five against Everton and were thumped 4-0 the last time they faced off. Ederson is one to avoid this weekend.

Hugo Lloris – (Tottenham – Pointed Earned 14.5)

Tottenham have one of the meanest backlines in the Premier League and Lloris is always a good option to consider on Yahoo! Fantasy Football. However, Spurs entertain champions Chelsea at Wembley and they have lost seven of their last nine matches at the home of football. Lloris isn't expected to keep a clean sheet here like he did last weekend.

Jonal Lossl – (Huddersfield – Points Earned 16 points)

Huddersfield romped to a 3-0 win away to Crystal Palace in their first ever Premier League match, while a clean sheet-attaining performance saw summer signing Jonal Lossl earn 16 points with Yahoo! Huddersfield welcome fellow newly promoted side Newcastle on Sunday and Lossl might be worth sticking with.

Defenders

Maya Yoshida – Points Earned 9.5 

Marcos Alonso – Points Earned 9.6

Nicolas Otamendi – Points Earned 9.7 

Daley Blind – Points Earned 9.8 

David Luiz – Points Earned 12.5 

Sead Kolasinac – Points Earned 13 

Stephen Ward – Points Earned 13.1

Ben Davies  - (Tottenham – Points Earned 15.4)

A 2-0 win over Newcastle last Sunday got Tottenham off to a winning start and Ben Davies will represent a cheap option for Yahoo! Fantasy Football fans, but like Lloris, it’s perhaps best to look elsewhere this time around even if Chelsea are currently in a funk. The Wembley curse could strike again for Pochettino’s side.

Miguel Britos – (Watford – Points Earned 15.5)

Many expected Liverpool to light Watford up last weekend, but not many thought the Hornets could match Liverpool’s firepower. Miguel Britos was one of those to get on the scoresheet in a six-goal thriller, but he is one to avoid this weekend given Watford have lost each of their last seven away league matches.

Ahmed Hegazi  - (West Brom – Points Earned 17.4)

Signed over the summer, Ahmed Hegazi flourished beyond expectations on his West Brom debut to score the winning goal at home to Bournemouth. In fact, the Egypt international did enough to finished GW1 as the highest scoring defender on Yahoo! But the Baggies have only won four league away matches since the start of 2016 and he might not be able to repeat his debut heroics when they travel to Burnley.

Midfielders

David Silva – Points Earned 12.2 

Dele Alli – Points Earned 13.2 

Mohamed Salah – Points Earned 13.2 

Aaron Ramsey – Points Earned 13.4

Abdoulaye Doucoure – Points Earned 13.5 

Paul Pogba – Points Earned 14.2 

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – Points Earned 14.9

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – (Arsenal – Points Earned 15)

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain finished gameweek 1 in the Premier League as the highest WhoScored rated player (9.23). He has arguably been one of Arsenal’s best players this year and is a stat machine, no matter where he plays. The Gunners travel to Stoke this weekend where they have found memories from their last trip – a 4-1 win. He could be a wise choice in your Yahoo! team this time around.

Granit Xhaka – (Arsenal – Points Earned 20.1)

He came in for criticism during his debut season, but Granit Xhaka followed up a super Community Shield appearance with another good showing against Leicester last time out. Alexandre Lacazette's clever runs behind the defence will bring the best out of Xhaka's ability to pick a long pass and he could quietly be one of the best players in the league this season. His temperament has been an issue in the past and a trip to Stoke could always bring the worst out of him, maybe he should be overlooked this weekend.

Christian Eriksen – (Tottenham – Points Earned 21.1)

The 25-year-old has been in tremendous form in 2017. He has registered eight assists in his last four matches for Tottenham and recently came close to inspiring his side to an FA Cup semi final victory over Chelsea at the end of last season. The Denmark international can hurt you from anywhere on the pitch and should always be considered in your Yahoo! Fantasy Football teams, no matter the opposition.

Forwards

Danny Welbeck – Points Earned 14.3 

Anthony Martial – Points Earned 14.8 

Wayne Rooney - Points Earned 16.2 

Alexandre Lacazette – Points Earned 16.5  

Roberto Firmino – Points Earned 16.5  

Alvaro Morata – Points Earned 17.8 

Steve Mounie – Points Earned 20.7

Sam Vokes – (Burnley – Points Earned 21.7)

Give yourself a pat on the back if you saw Sam Vokes scoring a two-goal salvo against champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend. The Clarets had a tremendous home record last season and they will return to Turf Moor this weekend high on confidence to host West Brom. The Baggies have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four away league matches and he could be one to consider this weekend.

Jamie Vardy – (Leicester – Points Earned 22.5)

The Leicester front man was immense against Arsenal last Friday and was unfortunate to finish on the losing side. A two-goal haul means Vardy has already scored as many league goals as he managed in the first 13 matches last term. Leicester welcome Brighton this weekend and Vardy should definitely be in consideration for your Yahoo! team.

Romelu Lukaku – (Manchester United – Points Earned 24.8)

It was a dream debut for Romelu Lukaku last weekend, as he scored two goals against West Ham in what was arguably Manchester United’s best performance of the post-Ferguson era. He scored more Yahoo! points than any other player, but has only scored three goals in 11 matches against Swansea – United’s opponents this weekend. In fact, he hasn’t netted against the Swans since March 2014, so you should perhaps be cautious about picking the United No.9 this time around.
