WhoScored's Premier League Team of the Month: Isak leads XI featuring Salah, Palmer and Cunha
Alexander Isak is the Premier League Player of the Month having shone for Newcastle in December. Bournemouth, Liverpool, Wolves, Fulham, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are also represented in the XI.
Kepa (Bournemouth) – 7.28
Kepa kicks off the Premier League Team of the Month with a WhoScored rating of 7.28. The Spaniard is the first of two Bournemouth players to make the cut having made the second most saves (25) in the division in December. Kepa also kept a clean sheet in three of his six appearances as Bournemouth went through the month unbeaten, conceding just four goals in the process.
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) – 7.60
The first of two Liverpool representatives in the XI, Trent Alexander-Arnold features at right-back. The Reds scored more goals (21) than any other team in December, with Trent involved in four of those, providing three assists. Those three assists came from 16 key passes, the joint-fourth most, to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.60.
Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth) – 7.48
Featuring at the heart of the defence, Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen stepped in to partner Illia Zabaryni in the absence of Marcos Senesi with ease. The young Dutchman scored twice in December, those coming in memorable wins over Tottenham and Manchester United. Huijsen also made the second most clearances (39) in a fine month for both player and club.
Toti Gomes (Wolves) – 7.21
Joining Huijsen at the back is Wolves defender Toti Gomes, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.21 in December. The Portuguese centre-back was key as Vitor Pereira made a winning start to life in England with 15 clearances and 13 tackles helping Gomes to a WhoScored rating of 7.21.
Antonee Robinson (Fulham) – 7.36
Rounding off the backline is Fulham star Antonee Robinson, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.36 in December. Robinson made the second-most assists (4) in the Premier League last month, those coming from 13 assists, that ranking eighth. He impressed off the ball, too, making the second most interceptions (15).
Cole Palmer (Chelsea) – 7.86
While Chelsea’s December ended poorly, the Blues failing to win their final three games of the year, which included defeats to Fulham and Ipswich, Cole Palmer did enough to make the Team of the Month with a WhoScored rating of 7.86. Palmer netted five times and provided one assist in December, though the latter would have been higher had his teammates sported their shooting boots. Indeed, the 22-year-old made more key passes (20) than any other player in the Premier League in December.
Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) – 7.68
Morgan Gibbs-White has been directly involved in six league goals this season. Five of those came in December as the Nottingham Forest star provided three assists and scored twice. Gibbs-White made the 11th most key passes (12) and made 11 tackles to contribute towards a WhoScored rating of 7.68.
Matheus Cunha (Wolves) – 7.62
Rounding off the midfield is the second Wolves player in the side. Matheus Cunha was instrumental in meetings with Ipswich, Leicester and Manchester United, netting three times and providing one assist against the trio. The Brazilian also completed the seventh most dribbles (15) to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.62.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) – 8.65
Nailing down the right wing spot, Mohamed Salah was directly involved in more goals (14) than any other player in December, winning the WhoScored Player of the Match award in five of his six league outings. The Egyptian star also created more clear-cut goalscoring opportunities (8) than any other player to feature with a rating of 8.65.
Alexander Isak (Newcastle) – 8.69
With a WhoScored rating of 8.69, Alexander Isak is the December Player of the Month. The Newcastle sensation scored in every league game last month, netting eight times, while laying on an additional two assists. The Swede also completed more dribbles (21) than any other player to lead the charge in this XI.
Anthony Gordon (Newcastle) – 7.78
Completing the team is Isak’s Newcastle teammate Anthony Gordon. The 23-year-old was directly involved in five goals in December, providing three assists, while making 16 key passes on his way to a WhoScored rating of 7.78.
