Chelsea youngster among those seeking international recognition

Gian-Luca Waldschmidt: Germany 

With Timo Werner struggling with illness ahead of Germany's friendly meeting with Argentina, Jogi Loew has a possible selection conundrum on his hands, but he has confirmed that he will hand a debut to Gian-Luca Waldschmidt. The 23-year-old has been in good form for club side Freiburg, scoring four times at a rate of one every 96 minutes in the Bundesliga, and was the WhoScored player of U21 Euros having netted seven times in Germany's route to the final, returning a 8.20 rating in the process. 

Lucas Ocampos: Argentina 

Sticking with the repeat of the 2014 World Cup final, Lucas Ocampos is aiming for international recognition this month after making a solid start to life with Sevilla. A summer arrival from Marseille, the 25-year-old has two goals and one assist to his name to return a WhoScored rating of 7.20 for Julen Lopotegui's side. There is ample competition for a wide berth in Lionel Scaloni's team, but with Lionel Messi suspended, now is as good a time as any for Ocampos to stake a claim for a regular Albiceleste role. 

Fiyako Tomori: England 

There is very much a spot up for grabs at the heart of the England defence alongside Harry Maguire and Chelsea's Fiyako Tomori is one of two centre-backs, along with Aston Villa's Tyrone Mings, vying to make thier debut. The youngster has impressed in the Blues backline after being handed the opportunity to consolidate a regular spot under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, returning a WhoScored rating of 7.16 in the process, with the ball playing centre-back keen on earning his first senior cap having been a regular for the U21 side. 

Renan Lodi: Brazil 

Renan Lodi's Atletico Madrid career started on the wrong foot as he was dismissed just 42 minutes into his LaLiga debut, but he recovered well to make the WhoScored team of the month in Spain's top tier. There is stiff competition for the left-back spot in the Brazil side, but the 21-year-old must be hoping Tite is prepared to look to the future in upcoming friendly meetings with Senegal and Nigeria and with Filipe Luis and Marcelo both the wrong side of 30, and Sandro turning 29 in January, Lodi has the opportunity to prove he is the long-term solution at left-back. 

James Maddison: England 

James Maddison has made England squads in the past, and now he is just waiting for that first cap. Goals in recent meetings with Tottenham and Liverpool shows the Leicester man is the right man for the big occassion and having made more key passes (111) than any other Premier League player since the start of the 2018/19 season, Gareth Southgate can take solace that he has a creative star more than capable of prying open defences to call upon. Considering Southgate has recently moved away from the three-man defensive setup, there is very much a place in the England boss' plans for the 22-year-old. 

Gerard Moreno: Spain 

Just eight games into the season and Gerard Moreno is close to matching his eight-goal LaLiga haul from the 2018/19 campaign. No player has netted more goals than the Villarreal striker (6) in Spain's top tier this term and with compeition for the lead striker role thin on the ground, Moreno will fancy his chances of a first senior cap this month. If he can transfer his fine club form to the international stage, then there is no reason why the 27-year-old won't be a regular feature in the Spain setup going forward.

Sergio Reguilon: Spain 

Moreno isn't the only player seeking a first senior Spain cap this month, with Sergio Reguilon also called up. A loan signing from Real Madrid, the 22-year-old has impressed with Sevilla as his WhoScored rating (7.09) suggests. Sevilla's form may have tailed off of late, yet Reguilon continues to shine defensively as averages of 1.1 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per game suggests. Judging by Spain's current left-back options, the youngster won't want to shy away from the possibility of becoming their long-term starter in this position. 

Luis Sinisterra: Colombia 

While there is no Falcao in the Colombia squad, competition for the starting striker spot remains rife, with Duvan Zapata, Luis Muriel and Alfredo Morelos all seeking a regular place in the side on the frontline. Luis Sinisterra is another aiming to nail down a spot in Carlos Queiroz's XI. The 20-year-old made five sub outings for Feyenoord last term, but has become a prominent player in Jaap Stam's side having started eight of nine Eredivisie matches, scoring one and assisting two. Having completed the fourth most dribbles (28) in the Eredivisie this season, Sinisterra is aiming to impress on the international stage and become a regular feature in the Colombia squad. 

Aaron Connolly: Republic of Ireland 

In what was a stunning full Premier League debut, Aaron Connolly made light work of Tottenham in Brighton's 3-0 win over the north London outfit. Netting twice, the 19-year-old was named the WhoScored man of the match as he made the European team of the week and included in Mick McCarthy's Republic of Ireland squad for looming Euro 2020 meetings with Georgia and Switzerland. If he can make his international bow, it'll mark what has already been a stunning October for the Seagulls striker. 

Philip Billing: Denmark 

At 23 years of age, now is the time for Philip Billing to make the step up to the senior Denmark squad having put in a series of good performances for the U21 side at the the summer's European Championship. The battling midfielder has put in solid averages of 2.5 tackles and 2.8 interceptions per game in the Premier League this season, and it surely won't be long before he is a guaranteed inclusion in the senior side as he continues to churn out fine midfield showings for Bournemouth.
