Rodriguez leads Colombia quintet in Copa America Team of the Round

 

With the quarter-finals of the 2024 Copa America done and dusted, we take a look through the team of the round. Represented in this XI are Colombia, Argentina, Uruguay, Venezuela and Canada. 

 

Sergio Rochet (Uruguay) - 7.36 

 

Sergio Rochet was a solid last line of defence as Uruguay defeated Brazil on penalties. The Internacional goalkeeper made three saves inside the 90 minutes to help return a WhoScored rating of 7.36. 

 

Jon Aramburu (Venezuela) - 8.91 

 

The player of the match from Venezuela's eventual penalty shootout loss to Canada, Jon Aramburu provided the assist for Salomon Rondon's superb second half strike, that coming from his only key pass, while two clearances off the line and 11 tackles, the latter a record in a 2024 Copa America match, saw the 21-year-old land a WhoScored rating of 8.91. 

 

Davinson Sanchez (Colombia) - 7.44 

 

The first of five Colombia representatives following their demolition job of Panama, Davinson Sanchez was still required to put in a shift at the back as he returned a WhoScored rating of 7.44. Sanchez returned a 100% tackle success rate from his four attempted tackles and made four clearances. 

 

Lisandro Martinez (Argentina) - 7.70 

 

Lisandro Martinez partners Sanchez at the back having scored the opening goal in Argentina's 1-1 draw with Ecuador. The Manchester United man also made two tackles and two clearances to help land a WhoScored rating of 7.70. 

 

Alphonso Davies (Canada) - 7.57 

 

Rounding off the defence is Canada's Alphonso Davies with a WhoScored rating of 7.57. While renowned for his ability to drive his side forward from left-back, Davies was solid at the back against Venezuela as he made seven tackles and two interceptions in Canada's eventual shootout win. 

 

 

James Rodriguez (Colombia) - 9.12 

 

With a WhoScored rating of 9.12, James Rodriguez is the quarter-final player of the round. Rodriguez was instrumental in Colombia's 5-0 win over Panama, providing two assists from three key passes and netting with his only shot to continue his excellent form in the USA. 

 

Richard Rios (Colombia) - 8.42 

 

Richard Rios scored his first 2024 Copa America goal in Colombia's win over Panama, netting with one of two efforts at State Farm Stadium. The 24-year-old also made two interceptions and completed two dribbles on his way to a WhoScored rating of 8.42. 

 

Federico Valverde (Uruguay) - 7.75 

 

Joining Rios in the middle of the park is Uruguay skipper Federico Valverde, who earned a WhoScored rating of 7.75 against Brazil. Valverde excelled off the ball as he made five tackles and one interception in a combative midfield performance to feature in this XI. 

 

Luis Diaz (Colombia) - 8.23 

 

The penultimate Colombia representative completes the midfield. Luis Diaz earned a WhoScored rating of 8.23 against Panama has he struck with his only effort on goal. The 27-year-old winger also chipped in with four tackles and completed three dribbles to feature.

Salomon Rondon (Venezuela) - 8.79 

 

Salomon Rondon scored for the third time at the 2024 Copa America in Venezuela's eventual penalty shootout defeat to Canada, netting with one of five shots. Rondon also won seven of eight contested aerial duels and made three tackles to return a WhoScored rating of 8.79. 

 

Jhon Cordoba (Colombia) - 8.49 

 

Joining Rondon on the frontline is Colombia forward Jhon Cordoba, who earned a WhoScored rating of 8.49 in the pummelling of Panama. The Colombian striker netted with his only effort in the 5-0 victory and won six aerial duels to make the cut.
