Rashford shines in Saturday's Premier League man of the match roundup

On a day packed with goals and impressive performances, we run down the man of the match displays from all of the Premier League matches this Saturday.

Diogo Jota - 9.16 (WOLVES 4-3 Leicester)

The day’s Premier League action certainly started with a bang as Wolves won a seven-goal thriller with Leicester courtesy of an injury time winner from Jota. The Portuguese was the star of the show, with his last gasp strike earning not only all three points for his side but a first career hat-trick. The 22-year-old hit the target with all four of his attempts, more than doubling his goal tally for the season in a single afternoon’s work.

Joshua King - 7.97 (BOURNEMOUTH 2-0 West Ham)

It may have taken until the 91st minute for King to attempt his first shot of the game against West Ham but the Norway international made it count to put the game beyond doubt. He had been very impressive beforehand too, completing 92 per cent of his passes, four dribbles, creating a chance and completing a tackle and interception to ensure the Cherries recorded a long overdue win.

Mohamed Salah - 8.69 (LIVERPOOL 4-3 Crystal Palace)

Liverpool’s meetings rarely fail to deliver or surprise and this was no different, with the Reds needing to come from behind in an action-packed second half. Salah was the man to get them back on level terms and restore their lead after Palace had equalised themselves, scoring with both of his attempts at goal to take his Premier League career total to 50 and move clear atop the scoring charts in the division, with 16.

Marcus Rashford - 8.23 (MANCHESTER UNITED 2-1 Brighton)

Rashford’s fine goalscoring form continued at Old Trafford, scoring in a fourth consecutive league game and fifth in six under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It was another superb strike too, and one of six shots at goal in total, while a further two dribbles, one key pass and 87 per cent pass accuracy further showcased his ability to lead the line for the Red Devils.

Fabian Schar - 8.99 (NEWCASTLE 3-0 Cardiff)

It’s fair to say Newcastle fans may have been a little perturbed when they saw Rafa Benitez bring in a third centre-back against lowly Cardiff but Schar’s return to the side proved to be inspired. The Swiss international scored his first goal for the club in the first half and added his second after the interval to set the hosts on course for a comfortable win, while producing two tackles, five clearances and winning three aerial duels to help keep a clean sheet.

Jan Bednarek - 8.60 (SOUTHAMPTON 2-1 Everton)

Further enforcing why he has been a favourite of new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, Bednarek won a second man of the match award in succession as the Saints overcame Everton. The 22-year-old won 13 of 17 aerial duels, produced ten clearances, six interceptions and three tackles in an outstanding defensive display.

Etienne Capoue - 8.11 (WATFORD 0-0 Burnley)

With all the entertainment elsewhere it was easy to forget that this game was on, but while there wasn’t much attacking quality on display, Capoue controlled proceedings in  midfield. The Frenchman won seven of nine aerial duels, made six clearances, two tackles and an interception, while completing all three of his dribble attempts.

Laurent Koscielny - 8.63 (ARSENAL 2-0 Chelsea)

It was a captain’s performance from Koscielny, as Arsenal quickly reclaimed fifth spot and moved within three of the Blues with what was a comfortable victory. It took until the 82nd minute for the visitors to have a shot on target, and the Frenchman was pivotal to the Gunners’ rearguard action, producing 13 clearances and making three interceptions, as well as hitting the target with both of his attempts at goal, scoring with the second.
