U21 Team of the Week: Manchester United wonderkid scores milestone goal

 

Here we run through the best rated U21 XI from the weekend's action in Europe's top five leagues.

 

Goalkeeper: Alban Lafont (Nantes) - 6.87 rating

 

Nantes inflicted Marseille with their first league defeat since October and first at home since the opening weekend of the campaign with a shock 3-1 win at the Veledrome. Alban Lafont played an important role in their victory with four saves.

 

Right-back: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool) - 8.34 rating

 

Trent Alexander-Arnold has now equalled his tally of assists from last season (12) with 11 games left to run in the 2019/20 campaign after setting up two goals in Liverpool's 3-2 win over West Ham on Monday. The 21-year-old also made three tackles and had four shots at goal against the Hammers.

 

Centre-back: Jules Kounde (Sevilla) - 8.57 rating

 

Jules Kounde netted his first league goal for Sevilla in their surprise 3-0 win away to high-flyers Getafe on Sunday. The 21-year-old won five aerial duels and six clearances to help Sevilla keep a clean sheet in Madrid.

 

Centre-back: Dan-Axel Zagadou (Borussia Dortmund) - 8.11 rating

 

Dan-Axel Zagadou scored his first league goal of the campaign in Borussia Dortmund's 2-0 win at Werder Bremen on Saturday and also claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award in the process. Zagadou completed 90.6% of his 106 attempted passes and made three tackles and interceptions combined against Bremen.

 

Left-back: Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) - 7.39 rating

 

Bayern Munich were pushed all the way in their 3-2 victory at home to Paderborn on Friday night and required a late Robert Lewandowski goal to secure all three points. It was another good outing for Alphonso Davies at left-back, with the 19-year-old completing five tackles and interceptions combined. Davies also completed five dribbles to help drive Bayern up the pitch.

 

Right wing: Mason Greenwood (Manchester United) - 8.84 rating

 

Mason Greenwood scored his fifth Premier League goal of the campaign in Manchester United's 3-0 win over Watford on Sunday. Greenwood started the move in United's own half and finished it in emphatic fashion, with his left-foot shot crashing in off the underside of the bar. At just 18, it will be fascinating to see at the end of his career where he finishes on the list of Premier League all-time scorers.

 

Central midfield: Martin Odegaard (Real Sociedad) - 7.63 rating

 

Real Sociedad raced to a comfortable 3-0 win over Valencia on Saturday to keep pace with the top four in LaLiga. Martin Odegaard neither scored nor assisted in the victory but still played an important role for Imanol Alguacil's side. Odegaard had four shots, registered two key passes and completed two dribbles.

Central midfield: Exequiel Palacios (Bayer Leverkusen) - 8.30 rating

 

Exequiel Palacios enjoyed a debut to remember for Bayer Leverkusen following his move from River Plate last month. The 21-year-old was the foundation of Leverkusen's 2-0 win over Augsburg, completing seven tackles and winning four fouls. Palacios attempted 95 passes and claimed the WhoScored Man of the Match award.

 

Left wing: Dwight McNeil (Burnley) - 9.32 rating

 

Mason Greenwood stole the headlines in the England over the weekend but it was another young English talent that actually won the player of the week award in the Premier League. Dwight McNeil scored and assisted in Burnley's 3-0 win over Bournemouth, doing so in a game for the Clarets for the first time.

 

Striker: Victor Osimhen (Lille) - 8.43 rating

 

Victor Osimhen has now scored or assisted in three straight league matches after another influential display in Lille's 3-0 win at home to Toulouse. Osimhen set up Renato Sanches for Lille's third and hit the target with three of his five attempts on goal. Moreover, the 21-year-olld won four aerial duels and completed two dribbles.

 

Striker: Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) - 8.76 rating

 

Paris Saint-Germain came out on top in their seven-goal thriller against Bordeaux, with Kylian Mbappe scoring what proved to be the match winner. Mbappe has now scored or assisted in four straight league matches and has played a direct hand in 20 goals in 19 league appearances. Against Bordeaux, Mbappe had four attempts, registered six key passes and completed three drbibbles.
